The Short Answer

These are the brand and item pairs that turn up fake most often in the items sent to us for authentication from 2024 to 2026, in order. Pairs on the same line are level with each other.

  • Joint first: Bape clothing, Canada Goose clothing, Off-White clothing and Rolex watches
  • Next: Balenciaga clothing
  • Then: Zimmermann clothing
  • Then: Miu Miu clothing
  • Then: Dior shoes
  • Level: Alexander McQueen shoes and Telfar handbags
  • Level: Oakley accessories (in practice, sunglasses) and Chanel shoes
  • Then: TAG Heuer watches
  • Then: Louis Vuitton handbags
  • Then: Longchamp handbags

Two things to know before you read the list as a verdict on a brand.

It is about one category of one brand, never the whole brand. A house can be among the most faked names in clothing and much less of a problem in bags, or the other way round. Balenciaga clothing sits near the top of this list, for example, while Balenciaga bags do not. So the list always names the brand and the item together, and you should read it that way.

It is a selection, not every pair we see. We picked pairs across bags, clothing, shoes, watches and accessories so the list is useful whatever you are buying. The order between the pairs shown is the order we see, but other pairs that are not shown sit between some of them.

The order says nothing about any single item in front of you. A Rolex can be perfectly genuine and a brand that is not on this list can still be faked. What the list tells you is where to slow down and check properly. Each section below explains why that item is copied, the checks that matter most, and the full guide for it.

Why Some Items Are Faked More Than Others

Counterfeiters copy what sells. Three things make an item worth copying, and the pairs on this list tend to combine more than one of them.

  • Resale value and demand. A watch or a bag that holds its price on the secondary market gives a fake a high selling price, and a buyer looking for a deal gives it a reason to exist.
  • Hype and limited supply. Streetwear drops, waitlists and sold-out runs push buyers onto resale platforms, where a fake can sit next to genuine listings.
  • A design that is easy to copy at a glance. A printed logo, a camouflage pattern, a quilted shape or a simple tote is easier to reproduce than complex construction. The fake only has to look right in a listing photo.

That is also why clothing features so strongly here. A printed hoodie or a logo tee is cheap to make, easy to ship and hard to judge from a quick look, so it is a natural product for counterfeiters.

Joint First: Bape, Canada Goose and Off-White Clothing, and Rolex Watches

These pairs share the top of our list. There is no order between them.

Bape Clothing

Why it is copied. A Bathing Ape built its name on limited drops and the instantly recognisable ABC Camo and Shark Hoodie. The camo and the shark face are printed graphics, which is exactly the kind of design a counterfeiter can reproduce, and the resale prices for sought-after hoodies give them every reason to try.

The checks that matter most:

  • The ABC Camo. Look at the colour and the scale of the pattern, and at where the small ape heads hidden in it fall. Fakes often get the shapes roughly right but the scale or the colour wrong.
  • The shark face alignment. On a full-zip Shark Hoodie the face has to line up across the zip when it is closed. Misaligned teeth or eyes are a common tell.
  • Fabric weight and construction. Genuine hoodies are heavy and well finished. Judge the zip by how it feels and runs, not by the lettering on it.

Canada Goose Clothing

Why it is copied. Canada Goose parkas are expensive, instantly recognisable by the round arm patch, and bought in large numbers every winter. A fake parka can be sold at a price that looks like a discount and still make the seller money. Canada Goose itself warns buyers about counterfeit sites and lists authorized retailers on its website.

The checks that matter most:

  • The hologram label. A genuine coat carries a hologram sticker on a fabric tab with the care labels, and its pattern shifts as you tilt it. A flat print that does not change, or no hologram at all where there should be one, is a red flag.
  • The arm disc. Look at the embroidery, the colours and how cleanly the disc is stitched to the sleeve.
  • The interior labels, fill and fur. Fakes copy the labels, so read them together with the down fill, the fur and the hardware rather than trusting any one of them.

Off-White Clothing

Why it is copied. Off-White's look is built on text: the diagonal stripes, the arrows, the quotation marks and the industrial belt. Text and simple graphics are easy to print onto a blank tee or hoodie, and the brand's popularity on resale platforms keeps demand high.

The checks that matter most:

  • Typography. The quotation-mark lettering and the industrial belt text have a specific font, spacing and weight. Fakes are often close but not exact.
  • The arrow logo. Check its proportions and where it sits on the garment.
  • Interior labels and construction. The labels, stitching and finish inside the garment tell you more than the print on the outside.

Rolex Watches

Why it is copied. Rolex is one of the most recognised luxury watch names in the world, and its popular models often trade at or above retail on the secondary market. That combination of value and demand makes it the obvious target. Modern fakes can copy the look of a Submariner or a Datejust closely, which is why the checks below go beyond the dial.

The checks that matter most:

  • The cyclops lens. On models with a date, the magnifier over the date window should make the date clearly larger and sit centred over it.
  • Serial and model numbers. They are finely engraved in specific places. Run the serial through our Rolex serial number guide to see whether the era it points to fits the model.
  • The bracelet, clasp and finishing. Rolex finishing is consistent and sharp. Rough edges, loose links or a clasp that feels light are worth a closer look.

Balenciaga Clothing

Why it is copied. Balenciaga's logo tees, hoodies and oversized sweatshirts are some of the most recognisable streetwear-style pieces in luxury fashion, and their design is often a logo on a plain garment. That makes them easy to imitate and easy to sell online.

The checks that matter most:

  • The woven neck label. BALENCIAGA in crisp, evenly spaced capitals, sewn flat with neat edges.
  • The care label and style code. The code on the care label should belong to that kind of garment and that era.
  • The composition label. The fabric listed should match what you are holding.

Zimmermann Clothing

Why it is copied. Zimmermann's printed dresses are recognisable, sell out by season and have a growing resale market. Prints and silhouettes are copied by both outright fakes and look-alike dupes, and a fake listed with the brand name is the one that matters to a buyer.

The checks that matter most:

  • Fabric and hand. Genuine pieces use fine silks, linens and cottons. A synthetic feel on a piece that should be silk is a clear warning.
  • The labels. Check the brand label, the care label and how they are attached.
  • Construction and the print. Look at the seams, linings and closures, and at how the print lines up across seams.

Miu Miu Clothing

Why it is copied. Miu Miu has been one of the most talked-about labels of the last few years, and its knitwear, logo pieces and runway looks are in high demand. That kind of attention moves straight into the resale market, and fakes follow.

The checks that matter most:

  • The importer block on the care label. Genuine labels carry a consistent block of importer and country lines. Missing or garbled lines are a warning.
  • The code line. The code on the label should belong to that type of garment.
  • Spelling errors. Read them in context rather than counting them; one error is not a verdict, but some errors only appear on fakes.

Dior Shoes

Why it is copied. Dior's B23 high-top and B27 sneakers, the J'Adior slingback and the D-Way slide are signature shapes that sell well on resale. The Oblique canvas and the logo are printed or woven designs that counterfeiters reproduce closely.

The checks that matter most:

  • The insole print on the B23. On genuine pairs the brand print under the removable insole is DIOR in capital letters in a thin serif face. A mixed-case print is a warning.
  • The heel tab size sticker. Check its format against genuine pairs of the same model.
  • The lining stamp on J'Adior slingbacks and D-Way slides.

Level: Alexander McQueen Shoes and Telfar Handbags

These two pairs sit level with each other in our list.

Alexander McQueen Shoes

Why it is copied. The Oversized Sneaker became one of the best-known luxury sneakers of its decade. Its chunky white shape is simple to imitate from the outside, and it sells steadily on resale.

The checks that matter most:

  • The board under the insole. Pull the insole out. Genuine pairs show a plain board, often stamped by the maker, never decorated.
  • The heel-tab code format. It should follow the format used on genuine pairs.
  • The insole print and sole stamp. Compare the lettering and placement with a verified pair.

Telfar Handbags

Why it is copied. The Telfar Shopping Bag sold out repeatedly when it took off, and its pre-order Bag Security Program made it famous for being hard to get. A simple tote in vegan leather with one debossed logo is easy to imitate, and demand on resale has stayed strong.

The checks that matter most:

  • The front debossed logo. It should be pressed cleanly into the material, with even depth and sharp edges and no stitching or raised outline around it.
  • The vegan leather. Its feel and grain are hard to copy exactly.
  • Corner stitching and seams. Neat, even and consistent on genuine bags.

Level: Oakley Accessories and Chanel Shoes

These two pairs sit level with each other in our list.

Oakley Accessories (Sunglasses)

Why it is copied. For Oakley, accessories in practice means sunglasses. They are popular, sold everywhere from sports shops to marketplaces, and cheap to copy compared with the price of a genuine pair. That makes fake Oakleys a common sight on marketplaces.

The checks that matter most:

  • The lens laser-etch. Look at the small etched mark on the lens and how cleanly it is done.
  • Temple engraving and model code. The text inside the temple should match the model you are holding.
  • The icon, earsocks and hinges. Fit, finish and the feel of the hinge separate genuine frames from cheap ones.

Chanel Shoes

Why it is copied. Chanel espadrilles, ballet flats and slingbacks are classics with a strong resale market, and the CC logo is one of the most copied monograms in fashion. A shoe with a simple shape and a big logo is an easy target.

The checks that matter most:

  • Origin country on the insole against the sole. On the flat CC espadrille, both should say Spain. A different country on the insole is a red flag.
  • The lining code. Its format and placement should match genuine pairs.
  • The tread panels and the jute. Look at the pattern and how cleanly the jute is finished.

Full guide: How to authenticate Chanel shoes.

TAG Heuer Watches

Why it is copied. TAG Heuer is one of the best-known Swiss watch names, and the Carrera chronograph is the model counterfeiters copy first. A chronograph dial with sub-dials looks impressive in a listing photo, even when the watch behind it is not.

The checks that matter most:

  • The chronograph reset. On a genuine Carrera the chronograph hand snaps back to twelve instantly when you reset it, and the pushers have a firm, single click.
  • The caseback engraving. Check the depth, the font and the text against the reference.
  • The movement, on references with a display back, compared with the genuine calibre.

Louis Vuitton Handbags

Why it is copied. Louis Vuitton is one of the most valuable luxury brands in the world, and the Monogram canvas is one of the most recognised patterns in fashion. The Neverfull, the Speedy and the pochettes are bought and resold constantly, so fakes have a large market to hide in.

The checks that matter most:

  • Details that do not belong on that model. A wrong lining colour, the wrong hardware or a feature the model never had is the fastest way to spot a fake.
  • The date code. It tells you when and where the bag says it was made. A code that does not fit the model or its era is a warning; a code that fits is not proof. Our Louis Vuitton date code guide explains the formats.
  • The interior stamp, hardware and canvas. Lettering, rivets, zip pulls and the alignment of the pattern all have to agree.

Longchamp Handbags

Why it is copied. Longchamp's Le Pliage is an everyday classic sold in huge numbers worldwide. It is affordable for a luxury bag, which means fakes do not need to look expensive to pass, only right. A nylon tote with a leather flap is simple to imitate at first glance.

The checks that matter most:

  • The interior woven tag. Check the lettering and how it is sewn in.
  • The zip pull and the snap. Look at the shape of the pull and the horse and rider embossed on the snap and the flap.
  • The leather-bound edge. Genuine bags have a clean, even binding along the top.

What This List Means When You Buy

If the item you are buying is on this list, assume nothing from the price, the photos or the seller's confidence. Fakes of these items are made to look right in listings, so the checks above are worth doing every time.

  • Ask for the right photos. Labels, stamps, codes, hardware and the inside of the item, in sharp light. A seller who will not send them is telling you something.
  • Check the details together. A single matching mark proves little because fakes copy marks. What decides it is whether the marks, materials and construction all fit the same genuine item.
  • Compare against a verified example of the same model and era, not a stock photo.
  • Buy where you can return. A return window or buyer protection gives you time to get the item checked.

If an item turns out to be fake after you paid, our guide to getting a refund for a fake designer item walks through the evidence that helps.

FAQ

What are the most faked luxury brands in 2026?

In the items sent to us from 2024 to 2026, the pairs at the top are Bape clothing, Canada Goose clothing, Off-White clothing and Rolex watches, level with each other. They are followed by Balenciaga clothing, Zimmermann clothing, Miu Miu clothing and Dior shoes. The list always names a brand together with a category, because the same brand can be far less of a problem in its other categories.

What are the most counterfeited designer bags?

Among the handbags in our list, Telfar handbags come first, followed by Louis Vuitton handbags and then Longchamp handbags. Louis Vuitton's Monogram canvas bags, the Telfar Shopping Bag and Longchamp's Le Pliage are all popular, widely resold and simple to imitate at a glance, which is why they attract fakes.

Which luxury watches are faked the most?

Rolex watches are at the top of our whole list, level with the leading clothing pairs. Among watches, TAG Heuer watches come next, with the Carrera chronograph as the model counterfeiters copy first.

Why is designer clothing faked so often?

Clothing is cheap to make, easy to ship and often relies on a printed logo or pattern, which is the easiest kind of design to copy. Streetwear drops and sold-out runs also push buyers onto resale platforms, where fakes sit next to genuine listings.

If a brand is on this list, does that mean its other items are fake too?

No. The list is about a brand and a category together. A brand can be among the most faked in clothing and much less so in bags, or the reverse. Judge each item on its own details.

Can I authenticate one of these items from photos?

Yes. What decides it is how the labels, marks, materials and construction fit together against verified examples of the same model, not any single detail, because fakes copy single details. On an expensive item, a professional review is the safer route, and it is the one we offer.

Is a brand that is not on this list safe to buy?

Not automatically. Any brand worth buying is worth copying, and this list is a selection rather than a full ranking. Use it to know where to be most careful, not as a list of safe brands.
