Why the Hologram Is the Starting Point
The Canada Goose Expedition Parka is the brand's flagship extreme-cold coat, retailing around $1,395–$1,550. It is faked constantly, and the fakes range from obvious to convincing, much like the fake market around Moncler, the other luxury down brand counterfeiters target hardest. Canada Goose's main anti-counterfeit measure is a hologram label: a small rectangular hologram sticker on a white fabric tab, stitched in with the care labels. The first version arrived with the Fall/Winter 2011 collection, and a newer one followed in Fall 2017. Both show a polar bear when tilted. The catch is that counterfeiters copy it too: almost every fake in our archive has a shiny hologram with a plausible serial number, and several show a polar bear. The hologram is a starting point, not a verdict.
After the hologram, the checks are the arm disc (the Arctic Program roundel), the labels and style number, and the down fill. This guide ranks them by what each proves.

Model Reference Before You Start
Confirm the model and era.
- Expedition Parka — the heavyweight white-duck-down parka with multiple exterior pockets and a mid-thigh length. Men's style numbers are 2051M (current) and 4565M (heritage); women's is 4660L. Canada Goose stopped using real fur, so current coats have no fur ruff or a removable synthetic one; older coats carry coyote fur.
- Black Label — a different, darker trim set, including a black, grey and white arm disc. That colourway is genuine, not a fake signal.
- Era — coats made before Fall/Winter 2011 have no hologram. Coats from 2011 to 2017 carry the first-generation hologram, usually with a "CL" plus seven-digit serial. Coats from Fall 2017 on carry the newer hologram, often with a small square data-matrix "CG" tag. Match the hologram to the era before judging it.
Canada Goose is made in Canada (the Expedition is a Canadian-made style). The interior labels should say so.
The Hologram Label
Genuine: a small rectangular hologram sticker on a white fabric tab, stitched in with the care labels (often next to the blue down-certification tag). Tilt it under light: the pattern shifts with the viewing angle and a polar bear appears. First-generation holograms (2011–2017) usually carry a "CL" plus seven-digit serial; newer ones often sit beside a square data-matrix "CG" tag.
What fakes do: most copy it well. In our archive, almost every counterfeit Canada Goose has a shiny hologram, many show a polar bear, and they copy both the "CL" serial format and the "CG" data-matrix tag. What still stands out is a coat with no hologram at all on production that should have one, a hologram that is a flat print that does not change when tilted, or a serial in the wrong format (one fake in our archive had a six-digit "CL" serial).

Worth knowing
A missing hologram on a coat that claims to be from 2011 or later, or a flat printed "hologram", is a real warning sign. A present, shifting hologram with a polar bear proves very little on its own, because counterfeiters copy it. Weigh it with the arm disc, the labels, the style number and the fill.
The Arm Disc (Arctic Program Roundel)
Genuine: the circular badge on the left sleeve shows the Arctic Program design — a white outline of a land mass (an inverted view of the North Pole) on a coloured ground, with small internal blue details, embroidered and finished cleanly. The disc is firmly and evenly stitched all the way round, sits flat, and the embroidery is dense with sharp edges. The text ("CANADA GOOSE" / "ARCTIC PROGRAM") is crisp and correctly spaced.
Fake: the land-mass outline is the wrong shape or missing its internal detail; the embroidery is thin, loose, or fuzzy; the disc puckers or lifts at the edges; the text is thick, cramped, or has connected letters; colours are off.

Red flag
An arm disc with thin, fuzzy embroidery, connected lettering, or a puckered edge. Canada Goose embroiders this badge densely with clean text; a sloppy roundel is a strong fake signal that pairs with the hologram check.
Worth knowing
Embroidery density can be hard to judge from photos, and some replicas embroider cleanly. Do not use colour as a shortcut: the classic disc is red, white and blue, but genuine Black Label coats carry a black, grey and white disc. Check the colourway against the model and line, then judge the stitching and text.
The Interior Labels and Fabric ID
Genuine: the main brand label and the sewn content/care labels are cleanly stitched with straight, even seams, no fraying, and carry the down type and ratio (for example "WHITE DUCK DOWN 80% DOWN 20% FEATHER"), country ("MADE IN CANADA"), care symbols, size, RN 153934 and CA 01201. The style number sits at the top of the white care label: four digits and a letter for the wearer, such as 2051M (men's), 4660L (women's), 7995K (kids). The "EXPEDITION" wordmark and all text are in the correct font with even spacing.
Fake: labels with frayed edges and messy stitching; a blank style field; a style number whose gender letter does not match the coat (an L, for women's, on a men's coat); a style number for a different kind of garment (a parka code on a vest); the "EXPEDITION" text with connected letters or extra threads. Note what does *not* help: counterfeiters print the correct RN and CA numbers, and in our archive almost every readable fake carried a real Canada Goose style number.

The Down Fill, Fur and Hardware
Down fill: the Expedition is a high-loft white duck down parka (Canada Goose markets it at 625 fill power; the care label lists the down type and ratio, not the fill power). Genuine: the coat is very warm, lofty and light for its bulk; the baffles are evenly filled with no cold spots, plump and springy. Fakes are often heavier and less warm, filled with feather-heavy down or synthetic, with flat or lumpy baffles.
Fur ruff (older coats only; current production is fur-free): genuine coyote fur is full, long, and varied in tone, moves naturally, and attaches with a proper removable system (snaps/zip). Fake fur is thin, uniform in colour, matted, or obviously synthetic, and may be sewn permanently.
Hardware: YKK zippers throughout, running smoothly, with clean pulls; the main zipper is a heavy two-way. Snaps and buckles are solid with clean Canada Goose or TW branding. Fakes use generic zippers that catch, light snaps, and blurry branding, the same hardware check worth running on a genuine Arc'teryx shell.

Red flag
Non-YKK zippers, or a coat that is heavy and not notably warm with flat, unevenly filled baffles. The Expedition is a high-loft down parka on YKK hardware; a heavy, poorly insulated coat with generic zips is a fake regardless of how the labels look.
What the Packaging and Extras Do and Do Not Prove
Canada Goose parkas come with a hangtag, a spare-button pouch, and sometimes a care booklet. All are reproduced.
Packaging is context, not evidence. The hangtag carries the style and colour; cross-reference it against the interior style label. A genuine-looking hangtag around a coat that fails the fill or construction checks is still a fake. Canada Goose itself offers authentication within 30 days of purchase from an authorised retailer with proof of purchase.

Two or more failures means walk away. A heavy, cold coat with flat, lumpy baffles or non-YKK zips is a fake on its own. A missing hologram on post-2011 production is a serious warning. A passing hologram, correct style number or correct RN proves little alone, because fakes copy all three.
