DITA's best fakes copy the temple engraving, the code line and the D-shield, so a correct-looking temple proves little. Here is what genuine DITA sunglasses show, and the few odd details we have seen on single pairs.

The fastest way to separate real Dolce & Gabbana sunglasses from "DG" lookalikes is the inside of the temple: genuine pairs we examined print the brand name and a full model line, while lookalikes usually carry only a DG logo, a short number and "CHINA CE".

Persol's temple stamps, arrow hinge and script logo are all copied by fakes, so a matching stamp proves little. Here is what genuine Persol sunglasses in our records show, and what a matching mark does and does not prove.

Most Celine sunglasses fakes copy the logo and the case well. Where they slip is the small print on the inside of the temples: a production date that cannot exist, a model code Celine never used, or a logo from the wrong era for the frame.

Counterfeit Miu Miu sunglasses copy the big stacked logo well. Where they give themselves away is the small print inside the temple: a model number that isn't a Miu Miu code, or a "Made in Italy" line missing its factory letter.

Chrome Hearts eyewear runs $700-$2,000 a pair and is faked constantly. The temple wordmark, the hinge stamping, the model name, and the case are where the counterfeits break.

The nova check print is the easiest part of Burberry sunglasses to fake convincingly. The engraved wordmark is where counterfeits actually break down.

Unlike the handbags, there's no dominant Prada sunglasses model to memorize — the tells that hold across the range are in the hinge machining and the temple stamp, not the shape.

Fendi eyewear spans decades of design, from the pequin-stripe 1990s cases to today's FF-logo hardware, so there is no single silhouette to check. The one thing that holds across eras: examine the hinge assembly up close before anything else.

The Flak line (Flak Jacket, Flak 2.0, Flak Beta) is Oakley's performance shield, sold and faked in huge volume for cycling and running. The bridge wordmark is where the better fakes still slip.

Versace eyewear spans decades of frame shapes, so there's no single model to check — the tell that holds up best across the whole line is how cleanly the "VERSACE" branding and the temple code are actually executed, not just whether they're present; the Medusa hardware only catches the weaker fakes.

Gucci eyewear is decided at the hinge and the inner temple: a machined metal hinge with slotted screws and no adhesive, and a crisp model-and-size string. Fakes glue the hinge and blur the markings.

Chanel eyewear is decided on the inner temple. A genuine frame carries a full marking string — model, colour code, size, temple length, lens category — and fakes routinely print a shorter one.

Fake Oakleys flood every marketplace, and the good ones copy the shape well. The lens laser-etch, the stem stamp, and the earsock rubber are where they still fail.

The gold "T" on the temple is the most copied — and most revealing — detail on fake Tom Ford glasses. Here is how the hinge, the engraving, and the lens etch separate real from fake.

Gentle Monster is the most-faked eyewear brand in Asia. Hinge construction, acetate quality, and lens engraving separate genuine frames from convincing counterfeits.

Ray-Ban is the most counterfeited eyewear brand there is. Lens etching, hinge quality, and temple engraving: every check for a Wayfarer, Aviator, or Clubmaster, ranked by what it actually proves.

Cartier eyewear — Panthère, Santos, rimless — retails from $600 to over $5,000 and is widely faked. Frame weight, temple engravings, hinge quality, and packaging.
