On Grailed, the Clock Is Three Days and Where You Paid Decides the Rest
Grailed is a peer-to-peer marketplace for menswear, streetwear, sneakers and designer clothing. Most of what is listed has never been inspected by anyone but the seller. Some listings carry a Grailed Verified card, but that is not a guarantee about the item that arrives, as the section below explains. For everything else, protection is a dispute process that starts after delivery.
Two things decide most Grailed counterfeit cases. The first is the reporting window, which Grailed's help pages give as 3 calendar days. The second is how you paid. A purchase made through Grailed can use Grailed Purchase Protection. Grailed's pages say transactions completed outside Grailed are not covered at all, so a seller who offers a discount to pay by PayPal, Venmo or bank transfer is asking you to give that protection up.
Grailed's rules and windows change. What follows is what Grailed's help pages described when we checked in October 2026. Confirm the current terms in your account before you rely on any deadline. Our Grailed authentication review covers how the platform works before a sale; this guide covers what to do after one. If you bought on Vinted instead, see our Vinted guide.
Do This Before You Report
Start on the day the parcel arrives:
- Note the delivery date. Write down when tracking showed delivery and when you opened the parcel.
- Stop using the item. Do not wear it, wash it or remove the tags.
- Keep everything. Tags, box, outer packaging, inserts and the shipping label. Photograph the parcel as it arrived.
- Screenshot the listing and the chat now. Capture the title, every photo, the description, the price and the seller's username. Grailed says listings deemed inauthentic are deleted while it investigates, which can remove the listing you need as evidence.
- Keep messages inside Grailed. Grailed can see its own messaging, not a text thread or a DM.
- Do not post the item back on your own. Grailed's pages say that if Support approves a return, it walks you through getting a shipping label. A parcel sent earlier can leave you with no item and no refund.
- Do not accept a refund promise outside the app. Anything agreed off the platform is outside Grailed's protection.
Worth knowing
Grailed's help article counts the 3 days from when you receive the item. Its Terms count from when tracking shows the item as delivered. Treat the earlier date as your deadline, since Grailed says late reports may be denied. Report inside the window even if your evidence is not finished. Grailed says Support may ask for photos, written statements and other documentation as the case goes on.
What Grailed's Help Pages Say About Counterfeits
Grailed describes a zero-tolerance policy for replicas, counterfeits and inauthentic items, with sellers facing suspension or permanent removal. The details that matter to a buyer:
- What is covered. Purchase Protection covers three situations: an item you received that Grailed deems inauthentic, an item that materially differs from its description in colour, condition, fabric or measurements, and the wrong item being sent.
- The report window. Issues must be reported to Grailed within 3 calendar days. Late reports may result in your request being denied.
- The process. Your case goes to Grailed's Support team, which works with you toward a resolution. You may be asked for photographic evidence, written statements and other documentation.
- The refund. If Support approves a return, it walks you through getting a shipping label and sending the item back for a refund. If the item is not eligible, Grailed says you may be able to relist it.
- The discretion. Grailed's Terms say it decides, in its sole discretion, whether to direct you to the seller, ask you to file a dispute with the payment processor, or refund the purchase after an investigation.
Red flag
Protection applies to an item Grailed deems inauthentic, and that is Grailed's decision on the evidence in your case. A message saying "I think it is fake" is not evidence. Your case needs specific, photographed facts about the item.
Buyer reviews on sites such as Trustpilot are less tidy than the help pages, and some describe slow replies and refunds that took weeks. Those are individual accounts we cannot verify, but they are why you should keep every reply in writing.
Grailed Verified Is Not a Guarantee
Grailed's help center says listings with the Grailed Verified card are assessed by Grailed or its trusted partners before they reach the feed. Items Grailed treats as high-risk get human review of the listing's digital content, and the rest get machine moderation. A listing without the card may simply not have needed review, or may not have been reached yet.
As Grailed describes it, the review looks at the listing, not at the item in your hands, and clean listing photos do not tell you what was posted to you. If your listing showed the card, include it in your screenshot and mention it in your report.
We did not find a paid buyer authentication service described on Grailed's help pages. An opinion on the item you received has to come from outside the platform.
Paid Through Grailed or Off It
| Question | Paid through Grailed | Paid outside Grailed |
|---|---|---|
| Grailed Purchase Protection | Applies if the issue is covered and reported inside the window | Not available. Grailed's pages say off-platform transactions are not covered |
| Who to contact first | Grailed Support, about the order | Your bank or payment provider, straight away |
| PayPal protection | Grailed's trust page says transactions made through Grailed qualify for PayPal Buyer and Seller Protection (an older page, so check it fits your checkout) | PayPal Purchase Protection excludes personal payments, including friends and family |
| Card chargeback | A fallback if Grailed refuses | Often the only route left |
| Seller asked you to move off-app | Report it. Grailed's Code of Conduct bars soliciting users to other platforms | Report the seller and listing so the account is reviewed |
An older Grailed buying guide also says buyers who check out as a PayPal guest are ineligible for both Grailed and PayPal protection, so check your own checkout.
Evidence That Wins a Grailed Claim
Grailed's protection turns on whether the item matches the listing and whether it is authentic. The strongest evidence compares your item with the listing and with what the brand actually does.
- The listing against the parcel. Put the seller's photos next to yours. A different tag, trim, colour or construction from the one photographed is a fact about the item differing from its description, before any authenticity question.
- Tagged photos. Grailed's own buying advice suggests asking newer sellers for proof of purchase or tagged photos. If you asked and received them, compare them with what arrived. If the seller sent stock photos, say so.
- Brand-specific tells. Streetwear and sneaker fakes fail in different places than bags. For sneakers, the upper, tags, sole and box label do the work, and which check is most reliable differs by model: our guides for the Air Jordan 1, Nike Dunk and Yeezy 350 V2 walk through them check by check. For outerwear and hoodies, badges and interior labels do the work: see the guides for Stone Island, Moncler and the Supreme box logo hoodie.
- Designer bags. A high-end counterfeit can pass several checks; we explain what a superfake is and what still catches one.
- Specific beats general. "The compass badge lettering and the season code format do not fit this year" is a document a reviewer can weigh. "It feels fake" is not.
Worth knowing
Grailed is a secondhand marketplace, so wear, repairs and re-tagging can explain some oddities on genuine pieces. Lead with your strongest failure and back it with two or three others, rather than relying on one tell in either direction.
What to Send Grailed
Make your report specific:
- The order details and the date the item was delivered.
- Photos of the whole item, front, back, inside and base, plus every tag, label and code.
- Close-ups of each detail you believe is wrong, with a short line saying what it should look like.
- Your screenshot of the listing, especially wording such as "authentic" and any Grailed Verified card, with the seller's photos beside yours where the item differs.
- A written opinion from an independent authenticator naming the inconsistent details, not just a verdict. This is what separates a buyer's doubt from a document a reviewer can weigh against the seller's account.
If Grailed Decides Against You, or the Window Has Passed
A refusal is not always the end:
- Reply with new evidence. If Support allows a reply, add the specific tells and any authenticator's opinion instead of repeating the original complaint.
- Ask your payment provider. If you paid by card, a chargeback is the fallback when Grailed closes your case, and PayPal has its own dispute route if you paid that way. Deadlines run from the charge date and are strict. Our guide to refunds for fake designer items explains timing, what banks ask for and how to choose between routes.
- Weigh the account risk. Grailed's seller help center includes an article for sellers whose buyer was frozen for filing chargebacks, so a chargeback can draw attention to your Grailed account. Try Grailed Support first unless a deadline is closing.
- Report the seller and listing. Use the Report button. Grailed says it removes listings deemed inauthentic and can suspend accounts.
- Do not destroy or resell the item. Keep it until the case is finished.
Getting an Independent Opinion
Every route above ends at one question: can you show the item is not what the listing promised? An opinion from someone with no stake in the sale carries more weight than your own photos.
LuxeDetect issues a signed written statement on our letterhead for marketplace, PayPal and card disputes: a Statement of Non-Authenticity, a Statement of Condition, or a Not As Described statement. It costs $40 and arrives as a PDF within 24 hours of payment. You upload clear photos and your receipt with the request; if the photos do not support the statement you asked for, we tell you and refund the $40. With a three-day window, order it the day the parcel arrives. Grailed and your bank make their own decisions, so no statement can guarantee a result, and whether Grailed accepts a third-party document in your case is Grailed's call.
If you have not bought yet, or want a full verdict on an item before you decide what to claim, you can authenticate it with photos and receive a Certificate of Authenticity, usually within 24 hours.
FAQ
Does Grailed authenticate items before they ship?
Not as a rule. Some listings carry a Grailed Verified card, meaning Grailed or a trusted partner assessed the listing before it reached the feed, with human review reserved for items Grailed treats as high-risk. It is a check of the listing, not a guarantee about the parcel. Our Grailed authentication review scores it in detail.
Will Grailed refund me if I bought a fake?
It can. Grailed's help pages say Purchase Protection covers an item Grailed deems inauthentic, and that if Support approves a return it walks you through sending the item back for a refund. The decision is Grailed's, so the strength of your evidence matters.
How long do I have to report a fake on Grailed?
Grailed's help pages give 3 calendar days. The help article counts from when you receive the item and the Terms count from when tracking shows delivery, so use the earlier date. Late reports may be denied.
What if I paid outside Grailed with PayPal friends and family or Venmo?
Grailed's pages say transactions completed outside Grailed are not covered by Purchase Protection. PayPal also excludes personal payments from its Purchase Protection. Contact your bank or payment provider straight away and report the seller to Grailed.
Do I have to send a fake back to the seller?
The Grailed pages we saw describe returning the item through a shipping label that Support arranges, for a refund. Never post anything back until Grailed gives you instructions for your case.
Can I file a chargeback for a Grailed purchase?
If you paid by card and Grailed refuses, a chargeback is the usual fallback, and Grailed's Terms say it may itself ask you to dispute with the payment processor. Deadlines are strict. Grailed's seller pages mention buyers being frozen after chargebacks, so try Support first unless time is short.
Can I use a written statement in a Grailed dispute?
You can attach a third-party statement to your evidence if Support accepts documents, and you can use it for a card or PayPal dispute if Grailed refuses. We cannot promise Grailed will accept it, and the decision is Grailed's.
