The Blondie: One Name, Several Different Bags
Gucci's Blondie is defined by one big detail: a large, flat, gold-tone interlocking GG set in a circle on the front. The name covers more than one bag, and that is the first thing to get right when you authenticate one, because the details differ between them.
This guide is built from what genuine Blondies show. We reviewed ten authenticated Blondie bag orders, from vintage flap shoulder bags to a leather bowler and a recent camera bag, and two orders that were ruled fake. That is a small sample, and the fakes did not give us a repeatable pattern, so this page is a reference for what genuine bags look like.
Worth knowing
We do not have a repeatable, photo-visible counterfeit tell for the Blondie that held across independent fakes, so this guide has no "fake tells" table. Both fakes we reviewed were small camera-style crossbody bags listed as Blondies, not the flap or bowler versions. If a bag passes every check here and the money is real, get a professional opinion.
Which Blondie Are You Looking At?
- Vintage flap shoulder bag: a soft leather flap with the large GG disc, a strap on brass swivel hooks, and inside-strap stamping. We saw these in navy, brown and black leather and in suede. Some are listed as "vintage" and some as clutches.
- Leather bowler-style bag: a domed zip-top bag with two rolled handles and the GG disc on the front, with a serial tag inside.
- Recent camera bag: a small zip-top crossbody with the GG embossed into the leather and a tassel.
- Web and pebbled-leather variants: black pebbled leather with the GG on a green and red stripe.
Because a listing that says "Blondie" can mean any of these, match the bag in front of you to the right group before you compare details.
The GG Disc
On the vintage flap bags the GG is a thick, flat metal disc, with the two interlocked Gs inside a ring. The metal is a warm gold tone and it sits flat against the leather.
Lift the flap and the mounting shows. On the genuine brown bag below the disc sits over a cut-out in the flap, held with four small studs around it.
The disc is a large, simple shape, and copies of it are easy to make. Use it to identify the model, not to clear the bag.
The Strap Stamp
On both vintage flap bags whose strap we photographed, the inside of the strap carries a gold-foil stamp reading MADE IN ITALY, BY, a script Gucci, and BREV. N. 53280. The number was the same on both bags, which came from separate orders.
We saw this only on vintage flap bags, so it does not apply to the bowler or the camera bag, and stamps wear and fade on old leather.
The strap ends on a brass swivel hook mounted on a cylindrical post, with a stud securing the strap leather.
The Crest Zip Pull
The vintage bags we reviewed carry a gold-tone crest charm on the inner zip pull: a small shield with a figure in the middle and the letters G U C C I across the top.
This is a detail counterfeiters can copy, and a crest can be swapped between bags, so it is supporting evidence at best.
The Bowler Version
The bowler has the same disc, but it is mounted on a domed leather body with two rolled handles that attach with small metal buckles, and a zip closes the top. It does not carry the strap stamp above.
The Serial Tag
Inside the bowler is a small leather tag stamped with a two-line code: on the bag above, 131030 over 002046. Other Blondies we reviewed carried a similar tag reading GUCCI, made in Italy. Our Gucci serial number guide explains the format, and the checker below tests whether a code is plausible.
Worth knowing
A correctly formatted serial confirms format only, not this specific bag. Counterfeiters reuse real codes, so check the code against the bag style, the era and the materials.
The Recent Camera Bag
The recent camera bag is a small zip-top bag in leather with diagonal stitched quilting. The GG is embossed and outlined with stitching rather than made of metal, and a tassel hangs from the side.
Inside, the genuine bag has a small leather tag in the lining stamped with a registered mark, GUCCI and made in Italy.
What We Did and Did Not Find on Fakes
Both Blondie orders that were ruled fake were small zip-top camera-style crossbody bags, which is a different shape from the vintage flap bag and from the bowler. That is why we cannot offer a tell for the flap version.
- Model mix-up. The fakes in our archive carried the Blondie name, but they were a different, more generic camera-bag shape. The listing name is not reliable.
- One odd label. One fake had a woven interior label with a QR code, and a second woven label whose number appeared to be a plain run of sequential digits. That is a single bag, so we list it as something to look at, not a rule.
Authenticators commonly cite other tells, such as a GG disc that is too thin or too shiny, and strap stamps with sloppy lettering. We have not confirmed those against our own fake set, so they are general market knowledge only.
What to Rely On, and What Not To
- Rely on: an all-round match to the right version of the bag, clear photos of the disc, its mounting, the stamps and the serial tag, and a bag whose age fits its hardware and materials.
- Do not rely on: the GG disc alone, the crest zip pull alone, a serial that only looks right, or a dust bag or card.
