Where to Find the Serial Tag
Location varies by model. Check the lining, interior pockets and leather tags for the serial tag; a "Made in Italy" stamp often sits near it, but that stamp alone says nothing about authenticity.

No serial tag on your bag?
Gucci bags made before roughly 1994 may not have a serial number tag — only a "Made in Italy" stamp, sometimes accompanied by a model name. This is normal for vintage pieces. If your bag is from the 2000s or later and has no tag, treat that as a red flag and seek professional authentication.
The Black Label and Its Year Code
Gucci bags made after about 2014 carry a second tag: a shiny fabric "black label" stitched inside near a zip or the top interior. It has an encrypted QR code and a printed number whose leading digits give the year of manufacture.

Gucci Serial Number Lookup: What a Check Can Tell You
Gucci does not run a public serial number lookup, and it publishes no key that turns the numbers into a production date. A Gucci serial number check, here or anywhere else, can therefore confirm the format and split the style number from the second number, nothing more. Do Gucci bags have serial numbers? Most modern ones do, on a leather tag or stamped into the interior leather; many vintage bags do not. The second number is not unique to your bag: we have seen the same one, 493075, on genuine bags and belts of several different styles. The closest thing to an official verification is the encrypted QR code on the black label of newer bags, which reads only in the Gucci App.
Gucci Wallet Serial Numbers
On most modern Gucci wallets the number is stamped on a lining panel, often behind a card slot or near the zip: a six-digit style number, a dot or hyphen, then a second block. Genuine wallets we looked at showed six plus four digits, six plus six, and on older pieces a three, four and four layout. This checker reads the 10-digit and 12-digit layouts but not the older one, so a number that does not parse is a reason to look closer, not a verdict. Gucci Belt Serial Numbers
A Gucci belt carries its numbers on the strap, not on a tag. They are heat-pressed on the inside of the strap, under the registered mark, GUCCI and "made in Italy": a six-digit style number, a short letter-and-number code (such as AP00T), a size pair in centimetres and inches (such as 85·34) and a final six-digit number. None of them is a production date, and the final number repeats across genuine belts, so it is not a personal serial. Fakes copy whole stamps, sometimes digit for digit. Gucci Shoe Serial Numbers
Gucci shoes have no bag-style serial tag. On sneakers such as the Ace, the sole carries GUCCI, "made in Italy" and the size, and the size and style number are stamped into the sole or a tongue tab. Loafers carry a metal GUCCI plaque riveted into the insole, with the size branded beside it, or on current pairs a printed six-digit style number over a supplier code. A short lot code such as "111-24" in place of a six-digit style number was a fake tell in our Horsebit loafer guide; the Gucci Ace guide covers the sole stamp and insole. Gucci Sunglasses Model Number on the Temple
On Gucci sunglasses the number to look up is the model number, printed on the inside of the temple. Open the arm and read it: the model number in the GG####S format (the S marks sunglasses; optical frames drop it), a three-digit colour code, for example "GG0447S 002", a size string such as "65 ▫ 15 105" (lens width, bridge, temple length), "MADE IN ITALY" and a CE mark. Vintage Gucci Serial Numbers
Gucci bags made before about 1994 may have no serial tag at all, only a "Made in Italy" stamp. Older bags that do carry numbers often use short groups separated by dots, such as 002 · 1065 over 3444 on a red leather tag, or 012 · 3841 · 39 in gold foil on a vintage bag, both from genuine bags in our archive. Real vs Fake Gucci Serial Numbers
A serial number alone does not tell a real Gucci from a fake. The tags on the fake bags we reviewed looked as clean and correctly laid out as the genuine ones, and some carried real numbers: fake Marmont tags read 443497 over 493075, numbers that also appear on genuine pieces. We found no reliable way to judge a tag from its digits. What helps is the match between the number and the bag: a style number that belongs to a different Gucci model, a tag stamped "controllato" or with a counting run of digits, or, on a modern wallet, a stamp printed in ink where genuine ones are pressed. - No. Sophisticated counterfeits replicate correct serial formats and plausible black labels. Authenticity must be assessed by examining leather quality, hardware weight, stitching, logo precision, the black-label material and font, and interior lining alongside the serial number.
