Serial Number Formats by Era

Gucci's serial format has changed over the decades. Knowing the format helps you read the tag correctly.

2000s – present	6 digits + 6 digits	269876 543021	Two-row leather patch: top row is the style number, bottom row is the serial. Enter both together.

Where to Find the Serial Tag

Location varies by model. All authentic Gucci bags are made in Italy — verify the "Made in Italy" stamp is present alongside the serial tag.

No serial tag on your bag?

Gucci bags made before roughly 1994 may not have a serial number tag — only a "Made in Italy" stamp, sometimes accompanied by a model name. This is normal for vintage pieces. If your bag is from the 2000s or later and has no tag, treat that as a red flag and seek professional authentication.
