What Makes the Anjou Worth Knowing Well
The Anjou is Goyard's reversible tote: Goyardine canvas on one side, plain smooth leather on the other, so the bag can be worn either way. It comes with a small matching pouch that clips or sits inside, and in Mini, PM and GM sizes across a wide colour range. That reversible construction is what separates it from the Saint Louis Tote, which is canvas on both faces with a leather trim rather than a full leather panel. If you're comparing the two, the leather-side stamp and the pouch are the details to check first, since the Saint Louis doesn't have either.
Like every Goyard model, the Anjou carries no public reference material from the house itself, so this guide is built from close reading of verified examples rather than anything Goyard publishes.
Worth knowing
This guide is built from LuxeDetect's own Goyard order archive, filtered by name for "Anjou". It holds 91 confirmed-authentic Anjou records and 11 confirmed-fake ones. We reviewed the full photo set of every fake, and a substantial sample of the authentic side, including full sets for the images shown below. Eleven fakes is enough to catch a repeated pattern, which is what the code section below documents, but it isn't the volume the Saint Louis guide has, so we're teaching genuine construction first rather than forcing a full checkpoint comparison.
The Reversible Construction
Every genuine Anjou we reviewed is built from two full panels stitched together: Goyardine canvas on one face, smooth calfskin on the other, joined at the top edge and the handles so the bag can be carried with either side out. The leather side is a single colour, usually matching or complementing the canvas colourway, and it shows the leather's natural grain rather than any printed pattern.
This is the feature that makes the Anjou distinct from Goyard's other totes. A "Goyard tote" listing photographed from only the canvas side can be an Anjou, a Saint Louis, or another model, so before checking anything else, confirm the second side is full leather, not a leather-trimmed canvas interior.
The Leather-Side Stamp
On the leather face, genuine Anjous carry a blind stamp (pressed without colour, or occasionally in a contrasting colour) reading "GOYARD / PARIS / MADE IN FRANCE" in three centred lines. We saw this on both black and coloured leather sides, always in the same three-line layout and the same house lettering used across Goyard's other models.
The stamp sits on the leather panel itself, not on an interior tab. That's different from the Saint Louis, where the same wording appears on a leather tab inside the canvas lining.
The Pouch and Its Snap
The small matching pouch that comes with the Anjou closes with a metal snap engraved "GOYARD / PARIS" around its rim, set into the pouch's flap.
On the genuine pouches we reviewed, the engraving is even and crisp all the way around the rim, and the snap sits flush with the leather rather than proud of it.
The Handle Attachment
The handles attach to the body through a pointed leather tab, stitched down both sides and through the centre, with the stitching passing cleanly through both the tab and the body panel.
The stitch spacing is even and the thread colour matches the trim, whether that's cream on a lighter bag or tone-on-tone on a darker one.
The Heat-Stamped Code
Genuine Anjous carry a small heat-stamped code on a leather tab inside, typically where the strap or handle attaches to the lining. Every genuine code we could read follows the same format documented in our Goyard serial number guide: three letters followed by six digits, for example "SOA 020210".
As with every Goyard model, the code confirms the format is right and nothing more. Counterfeiters copy valid-looking codes freely, which is exactly what the next section shows.
Hardware
Where the Anjou uses metal hardware, such as the stud on the shoulder strap, it should have real weight and a clean, even chrome or gold-tone finish with no visible casting seam or pitting.
A Code We Found Repeated on Two Unrelated Fakes
Most of the fakes in our sample get the visible construction right. Across our eleven confirmed-fake Anjous, in Mini, PM and GM sizes and several colours, the leather-side stamp, the pouch snap engraving and the canvas print all looked convincing in listing photos. Two things are worth flagging.
The exact same code appeared on two different fakes. A blue Anjou PM and a yellow Anjou Mini, sold as separate listings weeks apart, are both heat-stamped "VAE 020159", digit for digit. Different colour, different size, same code.
A third fake, in black, was stamped "AAS 020213", a plausible-looking but different code, showing that not every fake reuses a number, only that some do.
Worth knowing
A code appearing on only one bag doesn't prove anything either way, since we can't check it against Goyard's own records. But if you can find your bag's exact code on a second, unrelated listing, that is a genuine red flag, not a coincidence. The leather-side stamp and construction were otherwise close. On the fakes we reviewed, the "GOYARD PARIS MADE IN FRANCE" leather stamp and the handle attachment stitching were both reasonably well executed, close enough that we can't point to a specific, repeatable flaw in either one across this sample.
Worth knowing
We're showing these as a caution, not a checklist. With eleven fakes we can say the reused code is a real, repeatable finding; we can't yet say the same about a specific flaw in the stamp or the stitching. Sizes and Colours
The Anjou comes in Mini, PM and GM, and across a wide and changing colour range each season, sometimes including embroidered special editions. Size and colour on their own tell you nothing about authenticity; the construction and stamping details above apply across the range.
