Goyard Authentication Guides

Goyard makes authentication unusually reliable because so much of the bag is done by hand. The Goyardine canvas — the interlocking Y / chevron pattern — is hand-painted through stencils, not printed, and the way the dots that build each Y are laid down is very hard to fake convincingly. The Saint Louis tote and the Artois are the two most-copied models.

The markers that matter: the spacing, density and slight irregularity of the hand-painted chevron pattern, and how it lines up (or is deliberately not centered) across seams; the tan Chapelle leather trim, which is natural cowhide that patinas and should show no plasticky coating; the interior — genuine Saint Louis totes have an unlined canvas body with a single detachable inner pouch, and the pouch canvas carries its own painted pattern; the serial/production stamp inside and the embossed "GOYARD" and "MADE IN FRANCE" font; and the tidy, tight saddle stitching on the handles where they meet the body. Colour matching between the body, trim and stitching is another common fake tell.
