Emilio Pucci Authentication Guide: What Genuine Looks Like

Pucci prints, labels and shoe marks change across eras, so there is no single tell. Here is what genuine clothing, scarves, shoes, sunglasses and cosmetic cases in our records show, and why no single mark settles it.

What Makes Emilio Pucci Distinctive

Emilio Pucci started in Florence in 1947 and became known for vivid, swirling geometric prints, first on silk jersey dresses and scarves and later on shirts, swimwear, shoes, sunglasses and small accessories. The house has been part of LVMH since 2000, and over the decades it has changed designers and label designs more than once. That matters for authentication, because a Pucci piece from one era can look quite different inside from one made a decade later, and both can be genuine.

Printed designer clothing is a favourite for counterfeiters because the look is easy to recognise and the prints are easy to copy. This guide shows what genuine pieces in our records carry, section by section: the printed signature, the woven labels, the care and size labels, and the marks on shoes, scarves, sunglasses and small leather-trimmed cases. We present them as what we see on genuine pieces, not as the brand's official system, and we do not decode any numbers, because we have no reliable source for what they mean.

Worth knowing

This guide is built from verified genuine Emilio Pucci pieces. We also looked at confirmed counterfeits, but we did not find a label or mark that appeared on several fakes and never on a genuine piece, and fakes we looked at copied the woven label, the printed signature and the "Made in Italy" wording closely. So there is no real-vs-fake comparison here, and no single detail below proves a piece is genuine. Use the guide to learn what genuine pieces look like, not to clear a piece.

The Printed "Emilio" Signature

The classic Pucci detail is the name "Emilio" written in black script and printed into the pattern itself, so it sits inside the artwork instead of being sewn on. On genuine jersey tops, dresses and scarves in our records it appears once or several times, usually small and tucked between shapes, in a thin black line that matches the outlines of the print. It also turns up on shoe uppers, on the outside of small cases and on terry-cloth totes.

Not every genuine piece shows it clearly. Cut, draping and pattern placement can hide it, and on some pieces it sits on a seam allowance. Fakes in our records also print the signature, so treat a neat signature as consistent with a genuine piece, not as proof.

The Woven Main Label

Genuine pieces in our records carry more than one main-label design. We saw:

  • light-blue lettering on white with "EMILIO PUCCI" over a smaller "FIRENZE" and "MADE IN ITALY" running vertically along one edge, as in the photo above;
  • a turquoise label reading "EMILIO PUCCI" and "MADE IN ITALY";
  • a black-lettered white label with a short hanging loop that repeats the name;
  • a cream or soft peach label with larger lettering and no "FIRENZE";
  • a dark blue label with a script logo and the words "ARCHIVIO" and a Florence street address, seen on a reissue-style piece.

None of these is "the genuine one". Which design you find depends on the line and the period, so a label that differs from a photo of another Pucci piece is not a warning sign by itself. What is worth checking on any of them is how the label is made: clean, even lettering, a finished edge and neat sewing into the seam. We also saw this label copied by counterfeits, so a good label alone clears nothing.

The Care Label with Modello and Tessuto

Many genuine garments in our records carry a satin care label with the name at the top, a "Modello" code, a "Tessuto" code, the fibre content in Italian, English and French, and short care instructions separated by thin rules. The other side often adds a Japanese-language block and the care symbols; it appears to name a Japan-based distributor, and we have not confirmed what it means, so we would not use it to date or place a piece.

The Modello code is a short mix of digits and letters, and the Tessuto code is a number. We do not know what these codes encode and do not claim to, and we cannot tell you a season or year from them. Two things are useful in practice: the codes should be legible and consistent on the label, and the fibre content should be plausible for the piece (silk, viscose and elastane jersey are common in our records). Some genuine pieces, especially older ones and scarves, have only a small fibre tag without these codes.

The Printed Size Grid Label

A separate small white label prints a boxed size grid: Italian (I), French (F), U.S.A. and U.K. sizes in the top row, and a "B - CH - D - DK" row beneath with a single size, then "MADE IN ITALY". The size numbers on genuine labels in our records agree with each other in the usual Italian, French, US and UK steps. Some pieces use a "GB-USA" heading instead of separate U.S.A. and U.K. boxes, so the layout is not identical across all genuine pieces.

Also look at the buttons: on several genuine shirts and blouses in our records the buttons are engraved or moulded with the name, and on the silk shirts they are tied with a small thread loop. This is a supporting detail, not a test.

Shoes: Insole Labels and Sole Stamps

On printed-fabric pumps, mules and sandals in our records, the insole usually carries a purple woven label reading "EMILIO PUCCI" over "FIRENZE", stitched flat at its edges. The sole or heel then carries stamped or embossed text: "Made in Italy" with the size, and sometimes the name, as on the pumps and sandals we photographed.

Newer leather pumps and flats in our records use a different mark: a gold-foil oval wreath topped by a crown, with "EMILIO PUCCI" and "FIRENZE" inside, pressed into a pale leather insole, together with a small round metal crest medallion set into the sole next to the size stamp. Sneakers and slip-ons use other marks again, such as a heel tab reading EMILIO PUCCI or a branded footbed label.

Origin is not always Italy. We saw a genuine espadrille-style mule stamped "Made in Spain", so a country other than Italy on a shoe is not by itself a reason for concern. We have not confirmed which lines are made where.

Silk Scarves

Genuine silk scarves in our records carry a woven black label with gold lettering ("EMILIO PUCCI" and "FIRENZE") next to a small white tag with the fibre content in Italian, English and French, the care symbols and "Made in Italy", at a corner of the hem. The hem appears hand-rolled, and the "Emilio" signature is printed in the artwork. Older vintage scarves use a different label design, for example green script lettering, so a vintage scarf will not match this photo. For scarf checks beyond this brand, our Dior scarf guide shows how hems, labels and prints are read on another house's silk.

Sunglasses

Genuine sunglasses in our records carry printed text on the inside of the temples: a temple length, "MADE IN ITALY", a CE mark and "EMILIO PUCCI" on one arm, and on the other arm an "EP" model number with the lens, bridge and temple measurements. The frames also carry "PUCCI" on the hinge or end piece or on the nose pads, and they usually come in a branded case, white or coloured.

Frames from different periods and different makers' collections look different, and we have not confirmed who produced each. The printed text is therefore best treated as a consistency check: sharp, evenly spaced lettering, and measurements that make sense for the frame. Our Versace sunglasses guide shows the same temple-print approach on another Italian label.

Small Leather-Trimmed Cases and Pouches

Printed cosmetic cases and pouches in our records are made from the same kind of printed fabric as the clothing, with the signature on the outside, a gold zip, a pull marked PUCCI on some pieces and a coloured leather tab stitched inside the lining. On the examples we photographed, the tab is stamped "EMILIO PUCCI" and "MADE IN ITALY" and matches the colour of the trim. Wording and tab colour vary by season, and some genuine terry-cloth totes use a plain leather tag instead.

When to Get a Professional Opinion

Everything in this guide is something a counterfeiter can also print or weave, and fakes we looked at copied the main label and the signature. No single mark settles the question, because what matters is how the label, the print quality, the fabric, the stitching and the hardware fit together on one piece. LuxeDetect authenticates Emilio Pucci clothing, shoes, scarves and sunglasses from photos, starting at $15 for a 24-hour check, with a Certificate of Authenticity for pieces that pass. Start an order with clear photos of the full piece, the main label, the care and size labels, the printed signature, and for shoes the insole and sole.

A code that checks out doesn't prove the item is real. Counterfeiters copy genuine codes.

Our authenticators check the labels, stitching and fabric of your Emilio Pucci against verified references, from $15. You get a verdict within 24 hours, and a Certificate of Authenticity if the item passes.

FAQ

How can I tell if my Emilio Pucci is real?

Compare the details described here against your piece: a printed "Emilio" signature in the pattern, a woven main label, a satin care label and a boxed size label, plus the insole and sole marks on shoes. A match is consistent with a genuine piece but does not prove it, because counterfeits copy these marks. A professional check from photos is the safer route for anything you are paying real money for.

Does a real Emilio Pucci have the "Emilio" signature printed in the pattern?

Many genuine printed pieces do, as a small black script signature built into the artwork. It can be hidden by the cut or the placement of the pattern, and fakes also print it, so it is a consistency check rather than a test.

What does a real Emilio Pucci label look like?

There is no single design. Genuine pieces in our records show a light-blue-on-white "EMILIO PUCCI FIRENZE" label with vertical "MADE IN ITALY", a turquoise label, a black-lettered white label with a loop, and cream labels without "FIRENZE". Look at the weave, lettering and stitching rather than expecting one exact format.

What are the Modello and Tessuto numbers on an Emilio Pucci tag?

They are codes on the care label. We cannot tell you what they encode, and we do not decode them or date a piece from them. Check that they are legible and consistent and that the fibre content looks plausible for the garment.

Is "Made in Spain" or another country on Emilio Pucci shoes a sign of a fake?

Not on its own. Most genuine pieces in our records say "Made in Italy", but we also saw a genuine espadrille-style mule stamped "Made in Spain". A country of origin is one detail to read together with the labels, insole, sole and construction.

Do Emilio Pucci sunglasses have text on the arms?

Genuine pairs in our records carry printed text inside the temples: "MADE IN ITALY", a CE mark and "EMILIO PUCCI" on one arm and an EP model number with measurements on the other, plus "PUCCI" on the hinge or nose pads. Because this text can be copied, it supports a judgement but does not clear a pair.
