What Makes Roberto Cavalli Hard to Judge From One Label
Roberto Cavalli is not one label. The house sells under at least four names that turn up in resale: the main Roberto Cavalli line, the younger Just Cavalli, Cavalli Class, and Roberto Cavalli Sport for sneakers. Each uses its own neck label, its own hardware and its own interior stamps. A buyer who compares a Just Cavalli shirt with a photo of a main-line dress will think something is wrong when nothing is. Work out which line you are holding first.
The second job is knowing how much a single mark can tell you. In our authentication records, counterfeit Cavalli pieces copy the marks people look for: the woven brand label, the black hologram tab, the "L'ologramma di sicurezza" label, the multilingual care label with the Florence address, and the Cavalli monogram on zip pulls and plaques. We have not found a mark that appears on the fakes we reviewed and never on genuine pieces, so this guide does not offer one.
Worth knowing
This guide is built from genuine Roberto Cavalli, Just Cavalli and Cavalli Class pieces in our records. We have too few confirmed counterfeits, and the ones we have reviewed copy the labels closely, so we cannot honestly offer a real-versus-fake comparison. What follows is what genuine pieces in our records show, not the brand's own published system. Where we could not confirm something, we say so. A matching detail does not prove a piece is genuine, and a slightly different one is not enough to call it fake.
The Main-Line Woven Label
On the main-line clothing we reviewed, the neck carries a brown woven label with "roberto cavalli" in lowercase gold script, usually with a separate small white tab beneath it showing the size. The label is cleanly woven with a folded edge, and on some pieces a leather loop or tie is attached beside it.
Other genuine pieces show a black label with the name in olive or gold type, so do not treat the label colour as a test.
The Hologram Tab and the "L'ologramma" Label
Many genuine pieces in our records carry a small black fabric tab sewn into a seam, with a rectangular rainbow hologram printed on it and "roberto cavalli" in gold lettering. A second black label often sits next to it, printed in gold capitals: "L'OLOGRAMMA DI SICUREZZA GARANTISCE L'AUTENTICITA DI QUESTO PRODOTTO", followed by the same sentence in English. We saw both on dresses, tops, belts and handbags.
Here is the catch. The counterfeit pieces we have reviewed carry both of these as well, and the printed claim on the label is only a claim. The hologram shifts colour and shows layered artwork as you tilt it, so compare it against a verified piece of the same model. A forum claim that genuine holograms have several layers of artwork is anecdotal, so we do not use it.
The Care Label and Where It Says It Was Made
Main-line pieces carry a white multilingual care label. On the genuine dress we show here it lists the fibre content in several languages on one tag and, on the reverse, the wash symbols, a Chinese-standard GB/T reference line, the company name "Roberto Cavalli Spa" with a Via del Cantone address in Osmannoro, Sesto Fiorentino, and "Made in Italy".
Two cautions. First, the layout is copied: counterfeit care labels in our records reproduce the address block and the symbols. Second, origin is not a verdict. Italian press reports that the Osmannoro factory closed in 2021, and genuine pieces in our records carry Made in Italy, Made in Romania and, for Roberto Cavalli Sport sneakers, Made in China. A Made in Turkey or Made in China line on a care label is context, not proof either way.
Just Cavalli: A Different Label
Just Cavalli is the diffusion line, and its labels look nothing like the main line. On the pieces we reviewed, the neck label is black or navy with a large gold "C" wrapped around the words "JUST cavalli". Beside it is a white tag printed "DISTRIBUTED BY ITTIERRE S.p.A." with a town in Molise, Italy, then "MADE IN ITALY" repeated in several languages, including Japanese. One genuine Just Cavalli piece in our records instead says Made in Romania.
Trade press reports that Ittierre held the Just Cavalli licence for years, which fits the "distributed by" tag, but the sources conflict on dates, so we cannot say which tag belongs to which era. Some Just Cavalli pieces also carry the hologram tab. Keep these labels apart from the main line when you compare.
Cavalli Class
Cavalli Class (written "CLASS roberto cavalli" on neck labels, and "cavalli CLASS" on hardware) is a separate label. On genuine clothing the neck label is a woven strip with "CLASS" in gold beside "roberto cavalli". On bags and shoes the name appears stacked, "cavalli" over "CLASS", in a squared typeface. We found it as a stamped metal zip pull on a leather tote and as a gold-foil print on shoe insoles.
The same mule loafer carries a gold horsebit bar across the vamp. Compare the typeface and finish against a verified pair, not as a pass.
Handbag Linings and Seals
The handbags we reviewed share a few interior details. Linings are often a strong colour, such as red, with a black woven tag sewn in carrying a hologram and "roberto cavalli" in gold. On one clutch the lining also holds a round clear seal printed "100%" with Italian wording around the edge that appears to read as "cento per cento italiano". A small card with a grid of seal stickers and a number has also turned up on genuine bags, which suggests a certificate-of-guarantee card. We have not found an official explanation of either, so we describe them only as features seen.
Outside, many main-line bags use a gold oval or round plaque with the interlocking RC monogram, and a debossed "roberto cavalli" with "MADE IN ITALY" on a leather tab inside the pocket. Hardware changes by collection.
Sunglasses
Cavalli eyewear is a large part of resale. On the pairs we reviewed, the inside of one temple carries a print with a date or batch mark, "roberto cavalli", "Made in Italy" and a CE mark. The other temple gives the model name, a colour code and the size figures, for example a model called Talisia followed by numbers and lens, bridge and temple measurements. The outer hinge often carries the RC monogram in metal, sometimes set with small crystals.

Roberto Cavalli Sport Sneakers
The Roberto Cavalli Sport sneakers in our records are a separate product. The tongue or inner label is a white tag with "roberto cavalli SPORT", a UK, EU and US size table, material pictograms and "MADE IN CHINA". That is what the genuine pairs show, so a China label on these is not a sign of a fake. The brand name also appears in embossed or moulded form on the upper, the insole and the sole.
General Red Flags Across Cavalli's Market
The Cavalli name is heavily copied. General market advice applies: prices far below resale, a crude or lopsided monogram, a flat hologram that does not change in the light, and labels from one line sewn into another. This is general market knowledge, not something our records have verified.
