Why Palm Angels Clothing Is Checked on the Labels

Palm Angels grew out of a 2014 photography book about Los Angeles skaters by Italian creative director Francesco Ragazzi. The clothing that followed is known for track suits, bear and palm tree graphics and a gothic-lettering logo. Those graphics and that lettering are the easy part to copy, so they are a weak place to start.

The label set is more useful. A genuine Palm Angels piece usually carries several labels at once: a woven neck label, a black printed wash tag with a style code and a producer block, a woven QR label and a CertiLogo label. This guide shows each of them on genuine pieces from our records: tees, hoodies, track jackets and track pants.

Worth knowing

This guide is built from verified genuine Palm Angels examples. We don't yet have a set of confirmed counterfeits that differ visibly from genuine pieces, so we are not publishing red flags or a real-vs-fake comparison table. When a verified difference turns up, this guide will be upgraded. Until then, use it to learn what genuine labels and details look like, and remember that a matching mark proves nothing on its own: fakes copy marks, including the label layouts shown below.

What a Genuine Palm Angels Label Set Looks Like

Check the label set as a group, not one label at a time. On the genuine pieces in our records the set is consistent across tees, hoodies and track wear:

  • Woven neck label: black, with the name in white gothic lettering.
  • Black wash tag: the name at the top, a style code beginning "PM", the size in two systems, a fibre list in many languages, care symbols and wash instructions.
  • Producer block: "PRODUCED AND DISTRIBUTED BY" in several languages, then "VENICE SRL", a Milan address and a "MADE IN" line.
  • Woven QR label: a light-grey label with a QR code and the words "SCAN TO CHECK YOUR AUTHENTIC PRODUCT".
  • CertiLogo label: a white label with a printed code and a certilogo.com web address (more on this below).

The Neck Label

On the green tee shown, the label is a black woven strip with fine ribbing and the name in white gothic lettering, sewn flat at the inside back neck. A small black woven "Palm Angels" tab also appears at the sleeve hem on other genuine pieces in our records, and the same style of sleeve tab turns up on pieces that are not genuine, so it is not a deciding mark.

The Wash Tag and Style Code

The wash tag is a black printed label folded into the side seam. Under the name sits a style code that begins "PM", followed by the size in two systems ("SIZE" and "CA") and the fibre list repeated in many languages. We have not confirmed what the characters of the style code stand for, so we do not use them to date a piece or to identify a season. What you can check is that the printing is crisp and evenly spaced, and that the fibres and care symbols are the ones you would expect for the garment.

The Producer Block and the Made In Line

The foot of the wash tag names the producer, "VENICE SRL", with a Milan address, then a "MADE IN" line in several languages. Two points from the genuine pieces in our records:

  • The address is not the same on every genuine piece. Most show Via Manin 13, but some genuine pieces show a different street number. We have not confirmed why, so a different number on its own is not a verdict.
  • The country varies by piece. Italy is the one we see most, Portugal also appears on a genuine graphic tee, and China appears on genuine sneakers. State the country as a fact about that item, never as a tell.

The QR Label and the CertiLogo Label

The woven QR label sits beside the wash tag. Beside it, genuine pieces carry a separate white label that reads "OR CHECK THE CODE AT WWW.CERTILOGO.COM" over a code. Palm Angels uses Certilogo, and the intended check is to scan the QR code or enter the code on certilogo.com. For how that kind of system compares with other authentication services, see our Entrupy vs Certilogo comparison.

The layout of these labels is easy to copy, and many pieces that are not genuine show the same QR label, the same CertiLogo label and the same producer block. A label that is present and well printed is therefore only the starting point.

Worth knowing

A CertiLogo code is meant to belong to one item. If the code printed on a piece also turns up on a different item (in a seller's other listings, or on a second piece you are comparing), look at that piece again. This is provisional guidance: it rests on a small number of cases, and it is not a test you can run on a single piece. The CertiLogo label alone proves nothing either way, because fakes copy the layout. The code has to resolve on certilogo.com to the item in your hands.

Prints, Embroidery and the Bear Graphic

The bear, the arched "Palm Angels" lettering and the city-name prints all appear on genuine tees and hoodies in our records, in several colours. On the genuine green tee above, the teddy bear is a printed photographic graphic with a visible texture, set above a small white logo. Print quality varies by model and by season, so compare against a verified piece of the same model rather than against this page. Embroidered logos, such as the small black one on a genuine grey hoodie, should be even, with no loose threads or blobbed letters.

Track Wear: Logos, Drawcords and Zips

Track jackets and pants are the best-known Palm Angels pieces. On genuine pieces in our records, the logo can be a reflective print, as above, or a white print on a camouflage jacket. Inside the waistband of genuine track pants there is a woven black label with the name, and the QR, CertiLogo and wash tags sit next to it. A pink woven neck label appears on a genuine camouflage jacket, so the colour of the neck label varies by model. Zips and pullers are a place to compare with a verified piece of the same model; a plain white zip on a black collar, as we see on one genuine jacket, is a model fact rather than a general rule.

Hangtags

Genuine new pieces in our records come with a grey card hangtag on a black cord and, on some, a black card tag with a barcode and a leaflet about the CertiLogo code. Hangtags are easy to buy or copy and are often removed, so their absence means little and their presence proves little. Treat a hangtag as context, never as evidence.

What a Matching Mark Does and Does Not Prove

Every label in this guide can be copied, and the label layouts here also appear on pieces that are not genuine. A matching neck label, wash tag, QR label or CertiLogo label proves nothing on its own. What a close review does is read the marks together against a verified piece of the same model: the print or embroidery, the construction, the label fonts, the producer block and a CertiLogo code that resolves to this item. Weight and feel are checks you do with the garment in hand. One label from another brand sewn into a Palm Angels piece is disqualifying by common sense, but a clean label set is not a pass mark.

We also built this guide around clothing. We have a small number of genuine sneakers and sunglasses in our records, but not enough to describe them as a reference here.

When to Get a Professional Opinion

If you are buying a Palm Angels piece at a price that matters, or the listing does not show the labels, get a second opinion before you pay. LuxeDetect authenticates clothing from photos with a 24-hour turnaround, a verdict from a specialist and a Certificate of Authenticity. Send clear photos of the front, the neck label, the wash tag with both sides unfolded, the QR label, the CertiLogo label and any hangtags.

A code that checks out doesn't prove the item is real. Counterfeiters copy genuine codes.

Our authenticators check the labels, stitching and fabric of your Palm Angels against verified references, from $15. You get a verdict within 24 hours, and a Certificate of Authenticity if the item passes.

FAQ

How can I tell if my Palm Angels hoodie or T-shirt is real?

No single label settles it. Genuine pieces carry a woven neck label, a black wash tag with a style code and producer block, a QR label and a CertiLogo label, but fakes copy those layouts. Compare the whole set, the print or embroidery and the construction against a verified piece of the same model, and get it checked if the purchase matters.

Can I authenticate Palm Angels from photos?

Yes. What decides it is how the labels, the print or embroidery, the stitching and the CertiLogo code fit together against verified pieces of the same model. Clear photos of the neck label, both sides of the wash tag, the QR label and the CertiLogo label are the ones that matter, and a professional review is the safer route on an expensive piece.

Does the Palm Angels QR code or CertiLogo label prove it is real?

No. Palm Angels uses Certilogo, and the intended check is to scan the QR code or enter the code on certilogo.com, but the label layouts are copied. A code that resolves to your item is the check that counts, and a code that also appears on another item is worth a second look.

Does "Made in Italy" or "Made in Portugal" mean a Palm Angels piece is real or fake?

Neither. Genuine pieces in our records show Italy and Portugal on clothing and China on sneakers, depending on the model. Origin is a fact about that model, not a tell.

Why does my Palm Angels label show a different address from another one?

Genuine pieces in our records show the VENICE SRL block with more than one street number in Milan. We have not confirmed why, so a different number on its own does not make a piece fake. Check the rest of the label set.

Are Palm Angels track pants and jackets covered by this guide?

Yes, as far as the labels, logos and details go. We have not built a model-by-model reference for individual track suit designs, so compare against a verified piece of the same model.
