Fendi T-Shirts Real vs Fake: Hologram Tags, Care Labels and Neck Labels (2026)

Fake Fendi T-shirts are rarely caught on the print. They are caught on the small black hologram tab, the care label and the way the size tab is sewn to the neck label. Here is what genuine tees carry and what counterfeits repeat.

Why Fendi T-Shirts Are Caught on the Labels, Not the Print

Fendi tees are among the most copied pieces in luxury clothing. The Zucca FF pattern, the chenille FENDI letters, the Bag Bugs eyes and the Fendi Mania stripes are cheap to reproduce, and a good counterfeit print looks the same as the real one in a resale photo. Among the shirt-type Fendi pieces we have reviewed, counterfeits outnumber genuine ones by a wide margin, so this guide spends its time on the labels.

A genuine Fendi tee carries a small set of tags: a woven neck label, a black tab with a hologram sticker and its own number, a long multilingual care label, and a black authenticity ribbon. Counterfeiters copy all of them, but as pictures rather than as a system. The gaps show up in how the tags are assembled: where the hologram sits, what the care label contains, and whether the size is on a separate tab hanging from the neck label.

This guide covers T-shirts, polos, sweatshirts and knit tops from about the mid-2010s onward, the pieces our archive supports with genuine and counterfeit examples side by side. It does not cover woven dress shirts, outerwear, or the SKIMS collaboration (see our SKIMS guide).

What to check, ranked by reliability

CheckpointReliabilityWhat it tells you
1. The Hologram Tag and Its Number★★★★★The same CA number on several unrelated fakes, or a number on a neck-label size tab, is a strong warning; a clean tab alone clears nothing.
2. The Care Label: Content and Template★★★★★A stripped label with no composition or made-in block is a strong sign of a fake; a complete label only moves it to the next check.
3. The Neck Label and Size Tab★★★★★A size tab under the neck label of a knit tee was common on fakes and absent on the genuine tees we checked.
Model Reference Before You Start★★★★★Tells you which label generation to expect; will not catch a good fake.
4. Prints, Patches and Hem Tabs★★★★★Famous prints are copied closely, so a right-looking print proves nothing.
What Hang Tags and Packaging Do and Do Not Prove★★★★★Fakes ship with convincing hang tags; context only.

Model Reference Before You Start

  • Which pieces this covers. Knit tops: tees, polos, sweatshirts, hoodies. Genuine woven shirts carry a numbered size tab under the neck label, which is exactly what is wrong on a knit tee (check 3).
  • Hologram era. The black hologram tab belongs to the mid-2010s labelling system. Newer pieces and many kids pieces use other tags, so a missing hologram on a recent piece is not by itself a failure. A hologram that is present has to be right.
  • Kids and older labels. Fendi Kids pieces use a pale blue or cream FENDI KIDS neck label. Older pieces from the early 2000s carry gold FF or Swinger International labels. Neither is a red flag; they belong to a different label generation.
  • Made in. Genuine Fendi labels show Italy and Portugal as makers, with importer panels for Turkey, Brazil, Mexico, India and other markets. A country name proves nothing by itself.
  • Fakes copy famous prints. Fendi Mania, chenille FENDI, Bag Bugs, FF pockets and Karlito all appear on the counterfeit side in quantity. A famous print is not reassurance.

The Hologram Tag and Its Number

On genuine tees from this era, the hologram sits on a small black woven tab in the stack of tags sewn into the side seam with the care label. The tab carries a square silver hologram showing the FF motif, with a number beginning CA printed beneath it. Beside it is a separate small black tab with the size (a letter such as L or M, or a number such as 52 or 56). Every genuine tee we compared had its own number.

The counterfeit versions go wrong in the assembly rather than in the sticker.

Red flag

The same CA number on more than one piece. Several counterfeits of different styles and colours in our archive carry one identical number, CA02898090, sometimes with a hologram and sometimes as a bare print. A genuine number belongs to one garment, so finding CA02898090 on a piece is a strong sign it is a copy. We read it on several counterfeits and on none of the genuine pieces we checked, but we did not check every genuine piece, and a number copied from a real garment could in principle also be on a genuine one, so confirm with another check.

Worth knowing

Counterfeiters also copy numbers from real garments, so a number that is not repeated anywhere is not proof of anything. Treat the hologram as a consistency check: right place, right design, and a number that belongs only to this item.

The Care Label: Content and Template

A genuine Fendi tee care label is long. It is headed FENDI, with a style code and a season code, a size grid in several systems, care symbols, a composition line in many languages, and a made-in block. Older examples add a short China compliance line reading GB 18401 - 2010 followed by an FZ/T standard. A producer or importer panel is normally sewn in beside it.

A large share of counterfeit tees fail here, in one of two ways. Some carry a short generic tag, such as FENDI with 100% COTTON, or a one-language wash tag. Others carry a label that looks like the real one but is stripped: the same layout, the style code printed twice with different characters, a compliance line reading GB 18407 - 2017, and no composition or made-in block. That identical stripped template appeared on unrelated fake tees in different colours and prints.

Red flag

A care label with no composition line and no made-in block, or one reading GB 18407 - 2017. Genuine labels in our archive were complete, and the GB line on them reads 18401. A stripped label is the signature of the cheaper template counterfeits, and a strong sign of a fake, though a worn or replaced label can look stripped, so look at the other checks too.

Worth knowing

A complete label proves much less than a stripped one disproves. The better counterfeits copy the whole label, including style and season codes taken from real garments: the same style code appears on a genuine chenille FENDI tee and on counterfeit copies of it. Passing this check only means the piece goes on to the next check.

The Neck Label and Size Tab

On a genuine knit tee the woven neck label stands alone: FENDI, with ROMA and MADE IN ITALY beneath it. The label may be black, pale, olive or grey, and one older style puts MADE IN ITALY and a yellow FENDI on a grey patch. The size is not on the neck label; it is on the small black tab in the side-seam stack from check 1.

A large share of counterfeit tees carry a size tab sewn directly under the neck label (M, XL, XXL or a number), and some put the hologram or the CA number on that tab.

Woven shirtsA size number under the neck label is normalNot applicable to knit tops

Worth knowing

The neck label itself was copied well on most fakes, so its typeface and ROMA line are not a safe test from photos. The size tab is the part counterfeiters get wrong. This check applies to knit tops only: a size tab under the neck label of a woven shirt is correct.

Prints, Patches and Hem Tabs

Fendi tees carry a small black hem tab with a button and FENDI ROMA, a feature both genuine and counterfeit pieces show. The prints are the most copied part of the garment: chenille FENDI letters, Bag Bugs eyes, Zucca FF all-over patterns and the Fendi Mania stripes all appear convincingly on counterfeits. Photos do not show thread density, pile height or the feel of the fabric.

Use the print only to rule out a design Fendi never made. A famous design that looks right is not evidence.

What Hang Tags and Packaging Do and Do Not Prove

Hang tags and packaging are context, not evidence. Counterfeit tees in our archive arrived with convincing Fendi hang tags, and a genuine piece sold second-hand may have lost its own. A tag that contradicts the garment label (a different size, a style that does not exist) is worth noticing, but a correct-looking tag clears nothing.

Quick Authentication Checklist

  • Find the hologram tab at the side seam, in the care-label stack, with a separate size tab beside it.
  • Read the CA number and search for it. The same number on another piece means reject.
  • Read the care label top to bottom: long, with composition and made-in blocks, and any GB line reading 18401.
  • Check the neck label stands alone with no size tab (knit tops only).
  • Confirm the print is a design Fendi made, then treat it as neutral.
  • Treat hang tags and packaging as neutral.

A known repeated hologram number or a stripped care label is a strong warning that needs one more failing check to be sure. Two or more softer failures, such as a size tab under the neck label and no hologram on a piece from the hologram era, should also be treated as a fail.

When to Get a Professional Opinion

Photos can rule out the cheap counterfeits, which fail on tags. They cannot clear the good ones, which copy the full label set. If the piece is worth more than a small sum, or the labels pass but the price is too low, have it checked in hand. FAQ

How can I tell if a Fendi T-shirt is real?

Start with the labels, not the print. Check that a black hologram tab with its own CA number sits at the side seam with the care label, that the care label is long and complete, and that the neck label stands alone with no size tab. The print tells you very little, because the famous designs are copied closely.

What is the number under the hologram on a Fendi tee?

It is a CA number printed on the black tab under the hologram sticker, unique to each garment. If the same number appears on more than one piece, at least one of them carries a copied label, so treat it as a strong warning. A number that is not repeated does not prove authenticity.

Does a Made in Italy label mean my Fendi T-shirt is real?

No. Fendi clothing is made in more than one country and counterfeits copy the Made in Italy line. It is a consistency check only.

Should a Fendi T-shirt have a size tab under the neck label?

On a knit tee, no. The size is on a small tab at the side seam beside the hologram tab. A size tab sewn under the neck label was common on counterfeits. Woven shirts are different: a numbered size tab under the neck label is normal there.

My Fendi tee has no hologram. Is it fake?

Not automatically. The hologram tab belongs to the mid-2010s labelling system, and newer pieces and kids pieces use other tags. On a piece from that era, a missing hologram or a number without a sticker is a warning.

Is the Fendi Mania (Fila) T-shirt copied a lot?

Yes. It is one of the most counterfeited designs, and several of the repeated hologram numbers in our archive are on counterfeit Mania tees. The labels, not the print, are the better check.

Does this guide cover Fendi bags and sunglasses?

No. See our guides to the Fendi Baguette and Fendi sunglasses. For how another brand's clothing labels compare, read our Balenciaga clothing guide.
