Why Slides and Foam Runners Are Hard to Check

Yeezy Slides and Foam Runners are molded in one piece from EVA foam. There is no stitching to inspect, no knit to compare and no leather grain, so the usual sneaker checks have little to work with. What is left is a short list of marks: the debossed text and logo in the footbed, the size sticker, the box label, the text along the edge of the Foam Runner and the outsole. Fakes of both shoes sell in large numbers, and "fake yeezy slides" is one of the most searched phrases around the brand.

We went into this guide expecting to find a shape tell. Checklists online say a genuine Foam Runner has a more pointed toe box, a rounder heel, narrower and longer ventilation holes, a taller centered heel collar, a sharper sole pattern and crisper lettering, and that fakes carry an extra adidas logo on the back of the heel. We set each claim against genuine pairs and against fakes of the same model and colour, including Resin and Salt slides and Vermilion, Sand and Tan Foam Runners. None of them held up: the fakes we compared have the same toe, the same heel, the same holes and the same lettering as the genuine pairs, and none of them carries a logo on the back of the heel.

So this is an authentic-reference guide. It shows you what a genuine Slide and Foam Runner carry, and it says plainly, mark by mark, where fakes have the same thing. If you are working on the Yeezy 350 V2 instead, whose size label does separate real from fake, see our Yeezy 350 V2 real vs fake guide.

Worth knowing

Every mark in this guide is also printed on fakes we have seen, so none of them settles a pair alone. Use them to catch the careless fake and to know what a genuine pair looks like; for a pair you are paying real money for, have it reviewed.

Slide: The Colourway, Box and Label

A genuine Yeezy Slide comes in a cardboard box printed YZY SLIDE (some boxes read YEEZY SLIDE) with "MADE BY ADIDAS" and the adidas logo underneath. The white label carries the product name, the size in US, French and UK, the article number, the colourway written three times (for example SALT/SALT/SALT), the line "ORIGINALS" in English and French, a "Made in China" line and a barcode.

What to do with it: check that the article number and colourway name on the label match the colour of the slide inside. A Resin slide in a Salt box is a mismatch worth asking about. But a box proves little by itself. Fake slides ship in boxes with the same layout, and a real box can be reused, so treat the label as a cross-check against the pair, not as evidence.

Inside a genuine Slide, the footbed carries a debossed "YEEZY" with "MADE IN CHINA" and the size (for example 7US) in a stacked block near the strap, and a shallow three-bar adidas logo further back. The letters are pressed into the foam with soft, rounded edges, and the surface around them shows a fine crackle texture.

Compare the size in the emboss with the size on the box and the sticker. They should agree. The typeface, placement and depth are not a test, though: we found the same stacked block, the same typeface and the same relief on slides that were judged fake, so a good-looking emboss does not clear a pair.

Worth knowing

A footbed logo that looks wider or flatter than the shallow bars on a genuine pair can come from wear, lighting or a worn mold. We saw this on a few fakes but not consistently enough to call it a tell, so use it as a reason to look at the other marks, not as a verdict.

Slide: The Size Sticker

A genuine pair has a white sticker stuck inside the strap or heel area. It reads MADE IN CHINA along one edge and prints the US, UK, FR, JP and CHN sizes in a grid, then a production line with an APO number and a month/year date, MALE/MALE, an ART number, a serial starting with # and a QR code, with the adidas wordmark down the side.

Read each field against the pair: the size in the grid against the emboss and box, the article number against the colourway, and the date against the colourway's release (a colourway cannot carry a sticker dated before it existed). On the 350 V2 these fields separate real from fake. On the Slide and Foam Runner they do not do it alone, because fakes print stickers in the same format, with the same fonts and grid. The sticker tells you whether the fields are consistent, not whether the pair is real.

Slide: The Rib Outsole

The genuine Slide sole is a ladder of thick, evenly spaced ribs across the foot, with a plain toe and heel.

Compare the ribs with a verified pair of the same size and look for ribs that are uneven or merge together. The fakes we looked at had the same rib pattern, so this is a check for a sloppy fake, not a way to clear a good one.

Foam Runner: Shape, Holes and Heel

The Foam Runner's shape is where the online checklists say fakes fail. We compared the toe box, the ventilation holes, the heel and the heel collar of genuine pairs against fakes in the same colourways, from the front, the side and the back.

Here is what we found:

  • Toe box. Genuine pairs and fakes both show a low, smooth toe that rises gently from the sole. We found no fake with a clearly rounder or bulkier toe than the genuine pairs.
  • Ventilation holes. The long, narrow, wavy front holes and the rounder side holes appear on both. Some pairs had slightly different holes, but genuine pairs vary between colourways and lots too.
  • Heel. The heel is a thick rounded mass on every pair we compared, genuine or fake. The heel collar, the raised rim at the back of the opening, looked the same height and position on both.
  • Heel logo. None of the fakes we looked at has an adidas logo on the back of the heel, and neither do the genuine pairs.

The two pictures below show the same colourway, Vermilion, seen from behind. One is genuine and one is a pair judged fake. Look at the heel, the collar and the side holes.

Fake-outcome Yeezy Foam Runner in Vermilion, from behind: the same heel, collar and side holes as the genuine pair

The shapes match. We do not know from the order record why this pair was judged fake, and we are not going to guess a reason from its shape. What the comparison shows is that a heel, a toe or a hole pattern that looks right does not clear a pair, and one that looks "a bit chunky" does not condemn it either. The foam's weight and how firm it feels are checks you make with the pair in your hands, against a verified pair of the same size.

Foam Runner: Side Text and Sole

Along the inside edge of a genuine Foam Runner, just under the holes, runs a line of raised text such as "FOAM RNNR 6US MADE IN CHINA". Older pairs read "MADE IN U.S.A." and later ones "MADE IN CHINA", so the country alone is not a tell.

Under the heel is an oval recess with an embossed adidas logo and a ridged wave pattern around it.

Both are worth checking, and both are copied. The side text on the fakes we compared is crisp, set in the same typeface and sized to match, and so are the wave ridges. The one thing we saw that does not match is a sole oval that carries a size number where the genuine pairs carry the adidas logo; we found it on a single fake. It is a reason to look harder at the pair, not a rule.

Foam Runner: Size Sticker and Hang Tag

Inside the shoe, a genuine Foam Runner has the same kind of size sticker as the slide, stuck on the diamond-textured footbed. New pairs also come with a white hang tag that reads FOAM RUNNER with the article number (GW3354 on the Sand pair below), the size block, an RFID symbol and the care icons.

As with the slide, check the sticker and tag against each other and against the pair: size, article number, colourway and date. Fakes reproduce both with the correct layout.

What a Matching Mark Does and Does Not Prove

Everything above is on genuine pairs. Everything above is also on fakes we have seen: the footbed emboss, the three-bar logo, the sticker and its grid, the box label, the side text, the sole text and the wave pattern. Because these marks are copied, a match is a reason to keep checking, not a verdict, while a single mismatch (a wrong size, a colourway that does not fit the article number, a sloppy emboss) is a reason to stop.

What decides a pair is how everything fits together: the marks against each other and against a verified pair of the same model, colourway and size. Weight, firmness and foam texture are checks made with the pair in your hands. For anything you paid real money for, send clear photos of the footbed and sticker, the sole, the side text and the box label and let a reviewer compare them with verified pairs.

Quick Checklist

  • Identify the model (Slide or Foam Runner) and the colourway.
  • Match the size on the emboss, sticker and box label.
  • Match the article number and colourway name on the sticker to the colour.
  • Check the date on the sticker against the colourway's release.
  • Look for uneven ribs, messy wave ridges and a sole oval without the adidas logo.
  • Compare weight and firmness with a verified pair.
  • Treat the box and hang tag as context only.

When to Get a Professional Opinion

Slides and Foam Runners are cheap to make and copy, and the fakes match the genuine marks closely. If you are buying a pair or checking a pair you already own, LuxeDetect reviews sneakers from photos of the footbed, sticker, sole and box and issues a Certificate of Authenticity. See our Adidas Samba guide for another model where fakes copy the marks well.

FAQ

How can you tell if Yeezy Slides are fake?

Start with the marks: the footbed emboss, the size sticker, the box label and the ribbed sole. Check that the size, article number and colourway agree across all of them. Fakes copy the format of each mark, so a mismatch ends the check but a match only keeps it going; have the pair reviewed if the money matters.

What does the inside of a real Yeezy Slide look like?

A genuine slide has "YEEZY" and "MADE IN CHINA" with the size debossed in a stacked block near the strap, a shallow three-bar adidas logo further back, and a white size sticker with a QR code. Fakes carry the same marks, so they identify the model, not the verdict.

How can you tell if Yeezy Foam Runners are fake?

The marks to read are the molded side text, the adidas oval on the sole, the sticker and the hang tag. Online checklists also point to the toe, heel and ventilation holes, but on the pairs we compared the shape was the same on genuine and fake. Compare weight and firmness with a verified pair if you have one.

Does a fake Foam Runner have an extra adidas logo on the heel?

Not on the pairs we compared. Neither the genuine pairs nor the fakes carry a logo on the back of the heel, so a logo there is a reason to look harder, but its absence proves nothing.

Is "Made in USA" on a Foam Runner a sign of a fake?

No. Genuine early pairs read "MADE IN U.S.A." and later ones "MADE IN CHINA", and fakes print both. The country alone is never a tell.

Can I authenticate Yeezy Slides or Foam Runners from photos?

Yes. What decides it is how the footbed, sticker, label, sole and side text fit together against verified pairs of the same model and colourway. Send clear, close photos of each; for a pair you paid real money for, a professional review is the safer route.

Is the Yeezy 350 V2 checked the same way?

Not quite. The 350 V2's size label carries fields that separate real from fake, so it has its own guide: see Yeezy 350 V2 real vs fake.
