Why Kendra Scott Is Worth Checking

Kendra Scott is an American jewelry brand founded in Austin, Texas, in 2002. It is known for colourful stone-and-metal pieces: pendant necklaces, drop earrings, cuffs and rings sold in many finishes (gold plate, rose gold, silver and gunmetal) and stones. A handful of silhouettes, such as the arrowhead drop earring and the rounded-oval pendant, are repeated season after season in new colours. That repetition is exactly what makes the brand easy to copy: a counterfeiter needs only one silhouette, in one finish, to sell a "Kendra Scott" listing.

So the first rule is that shape is not the test. A copy can reproduce the outline, the textured edge and the prongs closely, and a genuine piece comes in so many colourways that "I have not seen that colour" proves nothing either way. What you can check is the set of marks a genuine piece carries and how they are made.

Worth knowing

This is an authentic-reference guide. It is built from genuine Kendra Scott pieces we have reviewed, and the counterfeits in our archive are a small group of drop earrings. We do not list fake tells we have not seen on both sides. When the counterfeit sample grows enough to show a repeatable difference, we will upgrade this page into a full real-vs-fake comparison.

The Stamped "KENDRA SCOTT" Nameplate

On genuine necklaces and bracelets the most common mark is a small bar near the clasp, on the extender chain, stamped with the brand name in capitals. On the pieces we reviewed the lettering is stamped into the metal, evenly spaced and in line, and the bar sits with the extender chain and the lobster clasp.

The same photo shows the second recurring mark: a small open-work charm in the brand's interlocking-petal motif, hanging from the end of the chain. Finishes and bar sizes vary by collection and era, so treat the nameplate and charm as things to look for and compare, not as a checklist where a missing item settles anything.

Worth knowing

Not every genuine piece has every mark. Earrings, small studs and some older pieces carry little or no stamping, and a mark can wear down. A missing nameplate is a reason to compare more closely, not a verdict on its own.

The Clasp Tag, Engraving and Stamps

Other genuine marks we saw repeatedly:

  • A tag at the clasp. Some necklaces end in a small quatrefoil-shaped metal tag stamped KENDRA SCOTT in two lines, beside a lobster clasp.
  • Engraving inside rings and cuffs. On rings the brand name is engraved in capitals on the inside of the band.
  • A "KS" stamp. On slider-style necklaces the bead that adjusts the length can be stamped with the initials.

When you look at a mark, check how it is made rather than only what it says: crisp, evenly pressed letters, consistent spacing, and a mark that matches the type of piece. A mark that is only printed on, smudged, uneven or mismatched to the piece deserves a closer look. Even so, a correct-looking stamp only tells you the mark was copied well.

Hang Tags, Cards and the Pouch

Genuine pieces are sold with branded packaging, and the reference photos show these items:

  • A hang tag or card with the brand's petal logo above the name, attached to the chain.
  • A teal drawstring pouch printed with the logo and the name in widely spaced capitals.

Packaging is context, not proof. Pouches, cards and cloths are easy to copy, to reuse and to sell separately, and plenty of genuine pieces are resold without any of it. A missing pouch should not worry you; a perfect pouch should not reassure you.

What the Counterfeits in Our Archive Show

The counterfeit orders we hold are drop earrings: an arrowhead style, an oval style with a beaded edge and an open-work floral design. Photographed from the front, they copy the genuine silhouettes closely, including the textured border, the prongs and the shape of the stone.

These two are the same silhouette in different finishes, so the colour and plating difference means nothing: the genuine style is sold in many finishes. The point of the pair is the opposite. Seen from the front, the outline does not separate them, which is why we do not offer a "fake silhouette" tell. What decides a case like this is the rest of the item: the ear wires, the back of the setting, the metal and plating, the stone and how the marks and any packaging fit a genuine piece of the same style.

Our outcome labels also tell us only that an order was marked counterfeit. They do not by themselves say which detail gave it away, so we do not turn any single feature of these earrings into a red flag.

What a Matching Mark Does and Does Not Prove

Fakes copy marks. A stamped bar, a charm or a tag that looks right shows the counterfeiter copied that mark well, nothing more, and many genuine pieces carry no such mark at all. Weight, plating feel and the way a clasp closes are checks made with the piece in hand. The reliable approach is to compare the whole piece (stone, setting, wires or chain, marks and packaging) with a verified genuine piece of the same style.

Quick Checklist

  • Identify the exact style and finish, then find a genuine example of it.
  • Look for the stamped nameplate, clasp tag, ring engraving or KS stamp that fits that type of piece.
  • Check that stamped letters are crisp, evenly spaced and in line.
  • Look at the ear wires, the back of the setting and the plating, not only the front.
  • Treat the pouch and card as context.
  • Compare the whole piece with a verified genuine piece of the same style.

When to Get a Professional Opinion

Kendra Scott pieces are fashion jewelry, so a review is worth it mostly for a pricier piece, a bulk lot or a listing you plan to resell. If you have photos of the front, back, clasp and any marks, a specialist can compare them against verified pieces of the same style.

A code that checks out doesn't prove the item is real. Counterfeiters copy genuine codes.

Our authenticators check the hallmarks, engravings, clasp and settings of your Kendra Scott against verified references, from $30. You get a verdict within 24 hours, and a Certificate of Authenticity if the item passes.

FAQ

How can I tell if my Kendra Scott jewelry is real?

Identify the exact style and finish, then compare the whole piece with a genuine example. Look for the marks that fit that type of piece: a stamped KENDRA SCOTT nameplate near the clasp, a tag at the clasp, engraving inside a ring or a KS stamp. Because fakes copy marks and the front of earrings, check the wires, the back and the metal too.

Is there a serial number on Kendra Scott jewelry?

We found no serial number on the genuine pieces we reviewed. The marks we saw were the brand name and logo, so a seller offering a serial number as proof is not pointing to a standard feature.

Do all genuine Kendra Scott pieces have a stamp?

No. Necklaces and bracelets often carry a stamped nameplate or tag and rings may be engraved inside, but earrings and small pieces may carry little or nothing. Absence alone is not conclusive.

Does a Kendra Scott pouch or box prove it is real?

No. Packaging can be copied, reused or sold separately. Use it as context and give more weight to the piece itself.

Are Kendra Scott colours and finishes consistent?

No. The brand sells the same silhouette in many finishes and stones over the years, so an unfamiliar colour is not a sign of a fake.

Can you authenticate Kendra Scott jewelry from photos alone?

Yes. What decides it is how the stone, setting, metal, clasp, marks and packaging fit together against verified pieces of the same style. Send clear photos of the front, back, clasp and any stamps; for a high-value piece a professional review is the safer route.
