Why a Vlone Shirt Is Checked by Release and Source
Vlone is a streetwear label that started in 2011 inside the A$AP Mob collective in Harlem. Wikipedia describes it as hoodies and shirts that became popular locally before a first collection in 2014 and a runway show at Paris Fashion Week in June 2017. Highsnobiety describes the clothing as mostly T-shirts and hoodies with a large, stencil-like orange "V". That graphic is heavily copied, which is why it is the least useful thing to check on its own.
If you are asking whether a Vlone shirt is real, three questions do most of the work: which release is it, where was it bought, and do the labels and print match the brand's own pictures of that release. This is an authentic-reference guide, not a list of fake tells. We have no verified counterfeit Vlone photos to compare against, so we do not invent a checklist. Below we separate what is public record from what we cannot confirm.
Worth knowing
This guide is built from public reporting, not from a set of authenticated and counterfeit Vlone orders. When we have enough verified examples of both, we will upgrade it into a full real-vs-fake comparison.
What Vlone Is and Why Releases Matter
- Founding. Sources name the founders differently. Highsnobiety says Vlone was founded in 2011 by A$AP Bari and F. "SO" Hunter. Wikipedia says A$AP Bari and Kamoni Chandler (A$AP K) founded it in late 2011, with Chandler leaving later. Both agree on 2011 and on A$AP Bari as the public face for years.
- Collaborations. Vlone has made many collaborations, which is why "Vlone" on a listing can mean very different garments. Wikipedia lists Nike (2017, ended that July) and, from 2020, merchandise with artists including Juice Wrld, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, The Weeknd, Nav and Pop Smoke.
- The 2022 split and 2023 relaunch. Wikipedia reports that on October 8, 2022 Vlone announced that A$AP Bari had been fired from the brand. Highsnobiety reports a relaunch on a new official website on April 21, 2023, with a "Brick by Brick" drop of just over two dozen items, including faded hoodies, sweatpants, a work vest and pre-distressed painted jeans.
What this means for a buyer: there are older pieces from the original run, collaboration pieces, and pieces from the relaunch. They do not share one label, one print style or one price, so a single "Vlone tag looks like this" rule does not exist, and we do not give one.
What a Matching Mark Does and Does Not Prove
A big orange V, a Vlone neck label or a "Friends" style graphic that looks right is a reason to keep going, not a verdict. Fakes copy the marks buyers check, so a match proves nothing on its own, while a mismatch with the brand's own pictures of the same release is a red flag. The same is true of a "Made in" line on a label: it is not a tell either way.
Weight, fabric feel and print texture are further points to compare against a verified garment, and third-party guides disagree about them, so we do not publish a rule for the print or the stitch count. What you can do instead:
- Name the release first. Ask the seller which drop, collaboration or season the piece is from, then compare it with the brand's own images of that release. A different graphic or placement is a better clue than a different font weight.
- Photograph everything. The full front and back, the graphic in raking light, the neck label, the size and care labels on both sides, the inside seams and any packaging.
- Look for agreement. Labels, print and construction should look like one garment of one release, not a mix.
Where to Buy and Where to Be Careful
Highsnobiety names the brand's own website as the official channel for the 2023 relaunch, and we could not find a published list of authorized stockists, so we do not name any. Everything else is resale.
- Brand site first. For a current piece, compare the price, graphic and colourway with the brand's own page before buying elsewhere.
- Collaboration pieces. A listing that says "Vlone x" a brand or artist should be checked against that collaboration's own announcement. A collaboration that nobody announced is a reason to stop.
- A resale with no history. On a marketplace, check how long the seller has been active and whether their other listings look like a real wardrobe or like one design in every size.
Worth knowing
We do not quote resale prices. Compare a listing with the brand's own price for the same piece and with recent sold listings on the marketplace you use, and treat a figure far below both as a warning, not a deal.
When to Get a Professional Opinion
If you are buying a Vlone shirt or hoodie on resale and the price matters, an authentication costs far less than a wrong piece. LuxeDetect authenticates Vlone clothing from clear photos: the full front and back, the graphic up close, the neck label, the size and care labels and the inside seams, compared against genuine examples of the same release. Clothing authentication starts at $15 for a 24-hour turnaround and includes a Certificate of Authenticity. Start an authentication before you pay or list.

FAQ
How can I tell if a Vlone shirt is real?
Start with the release and the source. Work out which drop or collaboration the shirt is from, compare the graphic, colours and labels with the brand's own pictures of that release, and check who sold it. A big orange V that looks right proves nothing on its own, because fakes copy it, while a mismatch with the brand's pictures is a red flag.
Is there a Vlone real vs fake tag or label rule?
We do not give one. Vlone has released original pieces, collaborations and a 2023 relaunch, and they do not share one label, so a single rule would be a guess. Compare your label with the brand's own pictures of the same release and photograph both sides.
Can you tell if a Vlone hoodie is real from photos?
Yes, when the photos are clear: the graphic, the neck label, the size and care labels and the seams, each compared with genuine pieces of the same release. A hoodie that matches proves nothing by itself, and a mismatch is a red flag, so a good check weighs all of them together. For an expensive piece, a professional review is the safer route.
Where is the official place to buy Vlone?
Highsnobiety reports that the 2023 relaunch went live on Vlone's own new website. We could not find a published list of authorized retailers, so treat anything else as resale and check the seller's history.
Who owns Vlone now?
Vlone announced in October 2022 that A$AP Bari, who had been its public face, had been fired from the brand, according to Wikipedia. The brand relaunched in 2023. We do not state who holds the company beyond that, because we could not confirm it.
Does a Vlone x Nike or other collaboration piece have a different label?
Collaboration pieces are separate releases, so their labels and prints can differ from the standard line. Check them against that collaboration's own announcement rather than against a regular Vlone shirt.
What should I do if I think I bought a fake Vlone shirt?
Keep the listing, the messages and the payment record, and contact the marketplace or your payment provider. An authentication with clear photos can document what does not match before you open a dispute.
