Red flag
A monogram scaled down to fit the small canvas, or a front panel with upside-down motifs. LV keeps the monogram at a fixed size and cuts the canvas so the front reads upright.
2. The Vachetta Tab and Strap
The Pochette has a Vachetta leather tab at the zipper end (holding the D-ring) and a short Vachetta strap.

3. The Zipper and Pull
The single zip runs across the top of the pouch.
On a genuine bag the teeth are even and run smoothly with no catching, the zip has a branded LV pull (or an unbranded slider with an LV-stamped Vachetta tab depending on era), and the two ends of the zip are neatly finished into the seams. 4. The Heat Stamp
Inside the pouch, near the top, is the LV heat stamp — on a leather tab or the lining trim.
On a genuine Pochette it reads "LOUIS VUITTON" over "made in France" (or the correct country: Spain, Italy, USA), with ® after VUITTON, in LV's sans-serif with near-circular "O"s and the two "T"s in VUITTON almost touching at the top. It is pressed cleanly, level, to an even shallow-to-moderate depth with crisp letters.

5. The Date Code (or RFID Chip)
Inside the pouch, on a small leather tab tucked into a seam (or embossed on the lining), is the date code — two letters and four digits.
- Format: two letters + four digits, where from 2007 the digits are week-week-year-year (e.g. `CA1180` = week 11 of 2018)

The gold D-ring at the tab end is where the strap clips, and it is a small but reliable tell.
On a genuine bag the D-ring is solid brass (gold-toned), smooth, with even plating and no casting seam, and it is held firmly by the folded Vachetta tab — it does not spin loosely or pull away. 7. The Interior
Open the pouch. The lining is a textile — historically a brown microfibre / cross-grain "Alcantara"-feel, more recently other colours and finishes per era.
On a genuine Pochette the lining is fitted cleanly with no bunching, seams are neat, there is a flat card slot on one interior wall (a consistent feature), and there are no loose threads or glue smell. The lining colour is correct for the exterior canvas.
