How to Tell if Li-Ning Shoes Are Real
To check a pair of Li-Ning shoes, start with where it was bought, then match the exact model and colourway against the brand's own product page, then look at the box label, the tongue and insole labels, the logo, the stitching and the sole. No single mark settles it, because fakes copy marks. A pair that matches proves nothing on its own; a pair that clearly differs from the brand's own product photos is a strong reason to stop.
Li-Ning makes basketball, running, training and lifestyle shoes, and Way of Wade is the signature line made with Dwyane Wade. There is no single "Li-Ning look" to memorise, so the useful comparison is always your pair against the official page for the same model.
Worth knowing
This guide rests on public sources, not on our own verdict records. We do not have a set of confirmed counterfeit Li-Ning pairs to compare against, so we are not publishing a tell that we could not confirm, and we are not describing a box label, a tag layout or a style code format for every model. The sources are listed at the end.
What Li-Ning Is
Li-Ning is a Chinese sportswear company founded in 1990 by Li Ning, a former Olympic gymnast who is also its chairman, according to Wikipedia. Its global headquarters is in Beijing, and its Chinese name is written 李宁. The brand's own site (en.lining.com) lists Running, Training, Basketball, Badminton and Sports Life, plus men's and women's footwear, apparel and accessories, and features Way of Wade as a collection.
What Way of Wade Is
Dwyane Wade signed with Li-Ning in October 2012 after leaving Jordan Brand, and Wikipedia describes the deal as a lifetime contract. Way of Wade is the line that came out of it. The line has its own official store at wayofwade.com, whose footer names LI-NING Co. Ltd as the copyright holder. At the time of writing the store lists collections such as Wade 808, Dlo, Wade All City and Wade Shadow, and it carries a "Guaranteed Authentic" link pointing to an authentication guide of its own. We saw the link but not the text of that guide, so we do not repeat what it says.
Model names and numbers change from season to season, so a name you see in a listing may be retired. Compare a pair only with the product page, or a verified pair, of the same name.
What the Brand Publishes About Its Own Shoes
The brand's site links to an "Anti-Counterfeiting Check" page and an "Authorized Distributors" page in its footer. We could not open either page, because the site refused our requests, so we are not telling you what the check involves or who is on the list. Open both pages yourself before you buy a pair you are unsure about. The home page also lists stockists in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and the UK.
We did not find a page that describes a fixed label, hangtag, serial number or QR code for every Li-Ning shoe, so we are not telling you what those should look like.
Where Fake Listings Differ by Channel
Counterfeits of popular sneakers are sold through marketplaces, social media shops and websites that look like a brand's own. For Li-Ning the lowest-risk routes are the brand's own sites and its authorized distributors. Foot Locker has carried Way of Wade, according to a Complex report, and resale stores such as Stadium Goods and Kick Avenue list Way of Wade pairs with their own authenticity policies, which are the stores' guarantees, not Li-Ning's.
A sold-out colourway from a stranger, or a price far below what the brand and its retailers charge, is a reason to slow down. Ask the seller for the order confirmation or receipt from where they bought the pair, and for sharp photos of the box label, the inside of the tongue, the insole and the sole.
What to Look At on the Pair
Because we have no confirmed fakes to compare, these are the places to compare against the official product page and not a list of tells.
- The model match. Colours, panel layout, materials and logo placement against the official images of the same model and colourway. This is the check we put first, because it uses the brand's own photos.
- The style code. Retailer listings for Way of Wade show a manufacturer code, for example one beginning ABAU, ABAS, ABAT or ABAV, next to the model and nickname. Compare the code on the box label and the inner tag with the code in a listing from a store you trust. We could not find how Li-Ning assigns these codes, so a matching code is a prompt to look closer, not proof.
- The logo and print. Clean, well-defined and placed as on the product photos, with no fuzzy edges or misalignment.
- The stitching and glue. Even stitching and tidy glue lines, compared with the official photos.
- The sole and insole. Pattern, finish and printing, compared with the same model.
What a Matching Mark Does and Does Not Prove
Everything above is public, and anyone can copy it. A logo, a label and a style code are marks, and fakes copy marks. A pair that matches this guide is not proven genuine, and one that differs is not proven fake, because the brand releases many models and colourways and we could not confirm one fixed label for all of them. What decides it is how the marks, the materials and the construction fit together on one pair, compared with the brand's own pictures or a verified pair of the same model. Weight, feel and smell are further points to compare against a verified shoes.
When to Get a Professional Opinion

A code that checks out doesn't prove the item is real. Counterfeiters copy genuine codes.

FAQ
How to tell if Li-Ning shoes are real?
Check where you bought them, then match the exact model and colourway against the product page on the brand's site, then look at the box label, the tongue and insole labels, the logo, the stitching and the sole. Ask the seller for the order confirmation. No single mark settles it, because fakes copy marks.
Are Way of Wade shoes real if I bought them on eBay or another marketplace?
They can be, but you cannot assume it. Way of Wade has an official store at wayofwade.com and Li-Ning lists authorized distributors on its site. Ask a marketplace seller for proof of where they bought the pair, and see our eBay authentication review for what that platform does and does not check.
Does Li-Ning have an anti-counterfeiting check?
The brand's site links to an Anti-Counterfeiting Check page and an Authorized Distributors page. We could not open them, so we cannot say what the check involves. Look at both before you buy a pair you are unsure about.
Is there a serial number or QR code on Li-Ning shoes?
We did not find one described on the pages we could open, so we do not say what it should look like. Retailer listings show a manufacturer style code for Way of Wade models, which you can compare with the box label. Do not rely on any of these alone.
Who owns Li-Ning and when was it founded?
Li-Ning was founded in 1990 by Li Ning, a former Olympic gymnast, and has its global headquarters in Beijing, according to Wikipedia.
What is Way of Wade?
Way of Wade is the signature line Li-Ning makes with Dwyane Wade, who signed with the brand in October 2012. It has its own official store at wayofwade.com.
Can I authenticate Li-Ning shoes from photos alone?
Yes. What decides it is how the labels, the logo, the stitching and the materials fit together, compared with the brand's own pictures or a verified pair of the same model. Send clear photos of the whole shoe, the box label and the inside labels. For a pair that cost real money, a specialist review is the safer route.
