How the marks are cut matters more than which marks are there
Counterfeiters copy hallmarks — that part is easy. What they consistently get wrong is execution: genuine engraving is crisp, deep and evenly spaced, and reads cleanly under magnification. Shallow, soft-edged, crowded or drifting lettering is a red flag even when every individual mark is the right one.
