About Omega Authentication

Omega counterfeits cluster around two references: the Speedmaster Professional "Moonwatch" and the Seamaster Diver 300M. Both have decades of small design revisions, and fakes routinely mix details from the wrong era — a modern dial font on a case shape from fifteen years earlier, or a display case-back on a reference that never had one. Knowing the correct spec for the exact model year is half the battle.

The reliable markers: the print quality and spacing of the "Speedmaster" and "Professional" lines, the applied Omega logo at 12 o'clock and its exact proportions, the tachymeter bezel font and the position of the dot over the 90, the depth and evenness of the case-back engraving (the Seahorse medallion on Seamasters), the helium escape valve knurling on divers, and the finishing of the movement — a genuine co-axial caliber has finishing and a free-sprung balance a cheap clone movement lacks. The serial number on the lug or movement should also fit Omega's production range for that reference.

Every one of these is visible in sharp macro photography, so our watch specialists authenticate Omega from images without opening the watch. The guides below work through the Speedmaster, Seamaster and Constellation.
