Stone Island ART Number Decoder

Decode the season and line from a Stone Island ART number, and check that the care label, hang tag and Certilogo label agree with each other. A code that decodes proves nothing. A mismatch is the useful signal.

Where to find the ART number

Care labelThe printed label sewn into a side seam. The ART number sits under the EAC mark, next to the composition.
Hang tagPrinted after “Art.”. It should be the same number as the care label.
Spare-button tagThe small bag or card holding the spare buttons carries the ART number too.
Not the badgeThe back of the compass badge carries no code. A number printed on a badge back is not a Stone Island ART number.

Enter the code

The ART number is printed on the care label (under the EAC mark), on the hang tag after “Art.”, and on the spare-button tag. It is not on the badge. You can also enter the 2025 code (e.g. L2S15 6100015 S0A20 V002B) or a 12-digit Certilogo CLG code.

Compare the labels (optional)

Is there a Certilogo (CLG) label inside?

LOT / production date on the care label

Counterfeiters copy real codes; fakes in our archive decode perfectly.

This tool tells you what a code says and whether the labels agree. It never says a garment is real. A match is expected on real and fake pieces alike; only an inconsistency tells you something. Get a professional authentication →

How the ART number is built

From about 1990 to AW2024 the ART number is 9 characters. Take 791563051: 79 is AW2023, 15 is the mainline, and the 6 hints at a sweatshirt. The year is 1990 plus half of (the first two digits minus 12), rounded down.

CharactersMeaning
1–279Season. Even = Spring/Summer, odd = Autumn/Winter. 60 = SS2014, 70 = SS2019, 79 = AW2023, 81 = AW2024.Verified
1–2 = 1010Reissue or continuative item. No season is encoded.Sourced
3–415Line. 15 = mainline, 19 = Shadow Project, 16 = Junior. 14 = Stone Island Denims.Verified (14 sourced)
56Category hint: 1 shirt, 2 t-shirt/polo, 3 trousers, 4 outerwear, 5 knitwear, 6 sweatshirt, 7 long coat, A or M jacket, G gilet, L shorts, S shoes.Hint only
6–93051Model. Letters appear here on real labels (7115529A2, 8115301L1). Not decoded. Not decoded
/suffix/697Some labels add /31, /B, /697 and similar. Meaning unknown; the tool ignores it.Unknown

The Certilogo label

Since SS2014, Stone Island and Shadow Project garments carry a Certilogo security label with a 12-digit CLG code and a QR code. Junior pieces have one only from FW2020-21. Footwear and some accessories have none. Around AW21 the wording changed to “Check authenticity at certilogo.com” with a dotted QR box.

  • •The code is random. It has no checksum and no season, so this tool only checks its format. Look it up at certilogo.com and read stoneisland.com/authenticity.
  • •Certilogo itself says a CLG code, or a photo of one, does not guarantee authenticity.
  • •More than one counterfeit jacket in our archive carries the same code: 555 421 470 439. The tool warns if you enter it.
  • •What is useful: a garment that decodes to SS2014 or later with no Certilogo label, or a pre-2014 garment that has one.

The 2025 code format

Around 2025 Stone Island moved to a longer code, for example L2S15 6100015 S0A20 V002B. The tool recognises it, with or without spaces, and splits it into its parts.

L2SSeason token: a letter, 1 or 2, and S. One source reads K1S as SS2025. The rest is inference, so the tool gives no year.
15Line, the same 15 as the old mainline code.
6100015Model, 7 digits.
S0A20Material, 5 characters.
V002BColour, 5 characters. Colour codes like V0020 or A0M64 also appear next to older ART numbers.

What this tool can't tell you

  • •Whether the garment is real. Fakes in our archive carry codes that decode cleanly: 661563356, 7619G0314 and 29154B19 are all from counterfeits.
  • •Whether a Certilogo code is registered. Certilogo codes are random, with no checksum, so only certilogo.com can look one up.
  • •The model name or colour. Characters 6 to 9, and the colour code, are not published.
  • •A year for the 2025 code. We recognise its structure but will not guess a season from it.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the ART number on a Stone Island jacket?
It is printed on the care label sewn into a side seam, under the EAC mark, on the hang tag after "Art.", and on the spare-button tag. It is not on the compass badge: the back of a Stone Island badge carries no code, so a number printed there is not an ART number.
How do I read the season from a Stone Island ART number?
Take the first two digits. An even number is Spring/Summer and an odd number is Autumn/Winter, and the year is 1990 plus half of (those digits minus 12), rounded down. So 60 is SS2014, 70 is SS2019, 79 is AW2023 and 81 is AW2024. Codes starting 10 are reissued or continuing pieces and carry no season.
What do the line digits 15, 19 and 16 mean on a Stone Island label?
Digits 3 and 4 of the ART number give the line: 15 is the Stone Island mainline, 19 is Shadow Project and 16 is Stone Island Junior. 14 is reported for Stone Island Denims, but we have not confirmed it on a label ourselves. The fifth character is a loose category hint that real garments do not always follow.
Does a correct ART number or Certilogo code mean my Stone Island is real?
No. Counterfeiters copy real codes, and fakes in our archive decode perfectly. Certilogo itself says a CLG code, or a photo of one, does not guarantee authenticity, and more than one fake jacket we checked carries the same CLG code. A code that decodes proves nothing; a mismatch between labels is the useful signal.
Should every Stone Island have a Certilogo label?
Garments from SS2014 onwards should have a Certilogo security label with a 12-digit CLG code and a QR code. Junior pieces have one only from FW2020-21, and footwear and some accessories have none. A post-2014 garment with no Certilogo label, or a pre-2014 garment with one, does not fit and is worth a closer look.
Why does my new Stone Island have a long code like L2S15 6100015 S0A20 V002B?
Around 2025 Stone Island replaced the 9-character ART number with a longer code: a season token, the line, a 7-digit model, a 5-character material and a 5-character colour. The structure is recognisable, but the season token is not publicly documented, so the decoder splits the code into its parts without giving a year.

Have the garment checked, not just the code

Send photos of the badge, labels, buttons and stitching. An authenticator checks the garment itself and gives you a written result.
