Creed Formats by Era
Coach changed its numbering several times. Only codes from 1994 onward carry a readable date — earlier serials are unique numbers and nothing more.

Month Letters
The first letter is the production month, running A to M. Coach skips the letter I, which is why twelve months use thirteen letters' worth of alphabet. A code beginning with I is not a format Coach ever used.
Why a single year digit gives two answers
Most codes carry one year digit, so a “8” is 1998 or 2008 with nothing in the code to separate them. The bag's style, hardware and creed wording settle it. The one documented exception is a zero: Coach did not use a zero year digit until 2004, so a leading 0 points to 2004 or later rather than 2000.
The plant letter cannot be resolved to a place
The letter before the dash identifies the manufacturing facility, but Coach has never published what its plant letters stand for. Any site claiming to map a specific letter to a specific country is guessing. This tool reports the letter and stops there.
