Saint Laurent Serial Number Checker

Enter the serial number from the leather tab inside your Saint Laurent or Yves Saint Laurent bag to identify its format and approximate production era.

Enter your serial number

Find the rectangular leather tab sewn into the interior lining of your bag. The serial number is embossed or heat-stamped on it — on some models it may be on two lines. Enter all digits and letters together. Examples: 5534820, 638602 1YF07. Spaces and hyphens are ignored.

A serial number alone does not prove authenticity.

High-quality counterfeits replicate correct serial formats. Always verify leather grain, hardware weight, stitching tension, and the interior lining quality alongside the serial. Get a professional authentication →

Serial Number Formats by Era

The brand underwent a major rebrand in 2012 — from Yves Saint Laurent to Saint Laurent Paris — which also shifted the format and length of interior serial tags.

EraFormat
Pre-2000 (Vintage YSL)Short numeric (4–6 digits)
Late 1990s – 2012 (YSL era)Numeric (7–10 digits)
2012 – present (Saint Laurent)11+ digits or alphanumeric

Where to Find the Serial Tag

The serial tag is a small rectangular leather patch sewn into the interior lining. Location varies by model.

YSL vs Saint Laurent — what should my tag say?

Bags made before 2012 will have Yves Saint Laurent on the interior tag and hardware. Bags made after the 2012 rebrand read Saint Laurent Paris or simply Saint Laurent. A mismatch — e.g. "Saint Laurent" branding on a bag with an old-style serial — is a red flag worth investigating.

No serial tag on my bag?

Very early vintage YSL pieces (pre-1990s) may have only a simple brand stamp and no dedicated serial tag. For any bag from the 2000s onwards, a missing serial tag is unusual and warrants professional authentication.
