Chloé Serial Number (Date Code) Checker
The number on the leather tab inside a Chloé bag is not a serial number. It is a date code: season, year and a factory pair, shared by many bags. This tool reads it, checks that the date can exist and fits the model, and flags codes that break Chloé’s format. A code that decodes cleanly proves nothing: fakes copy codes. A mismatch is the useful signal.

Three numbers, three separate systems
They never match each other on a genuine bag.
| Leather date tab | A small leather tab sewn into an inside seam, usually in or near the zip pocket. The digits are heat-embossed into the leather. On older bags MADE IN … can sit on the same tab. This is the code the tool reads. |
| Hologram sticker | A silver sticker with “Chloé” over a six-character code. Around 2008 to the mid-2010s it sits on the back of the leather tab or straight on the lining. Later bags carry it on a small white or black fabric ribbon tag in the pocket, often with a small square barcode. |
| Authenticity card | A white plastic card from about 2008, with its own hologram sticker. It never carries the leather date code. |
Enter the code from the leather tab
A small leather tab sewn into an inside seam, usually in or near the zip pocket, carries digits in pairs, for example 03-16-63-65 or 02 19 70 65 4. Type it as you see it: dashes, spaces or none are all fine.
Hologram sticker codes (optional)
Six characters under “Chloé” on the silver sticker, for example C7RW2M. It is a separate lot code and never matches the leather tab.
This is not an authenticity check. A correct code does not mean the bag is genuine: counterfeiters copy codes from real bags, often exactly.
Chloé’s number is a date code, not a serial number. Many genuine bags share the same code. This tool tells you whether a code is consistent with Chloé's format and dates. It never says a bag is genuine. A match is expected on genuine and fake bags alike; only a mismatch tells you something. Code looks right but still unsure? Get the bag checked from $25 →
How to read a Chloé date code
Since about 2005 the leather tab has carried pairs of digits. Take 03-16-63-65: season 03 of 2016, factory pair 63, then 65. Chloé has never published the key; the reading below comes from collectors, and we checked it against genuine bags in our archive.
| Part | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Pair 103 | The season, 01 to 04. It was 01 to 04 on every genuine tag we read. Collectors read it as spring, summer, autumn and winter collections. It is not the month: we never saw 05 to 12. |
| Pair 216 | The production year, 2016 here. On the genuine bags we checked it always fitted the model’s era. |
| Pair 363 | Probably the factory or supplier. Chloé doesn’t publish the key, so the tool shows it and does not check it. |
| Then65 2 | Most tags from about 2011 add 65, and some add one or two more digits. Their meaning isn’t published, and genuine exceptions exist, so the tool does not check them. |
Layouts by era
The first two pairs always mean the same thing. What changes is how the tag groups the digits. The tool reads all of these.
| Years | Example | Shape |
|---|---|---|
| about 2005 to 2011 | 02-07-53 | three pairs |
| about 2009 to 2010 | 01-09-51-6811 | three pairs and four digits |
| about 2011 to 2020 | 03-13-63-65 | four pairs |
| about 2011 to 2019 | 03175665-2 | eight digits run together, then a suffix |
| about 2014 to 2024 | 03 16 70 65 2 | spaced pairs, optional last digit |
| about 2020 to 2024 | 03 21 70 65 04 | five groups |
What the tool flags
In our archive these checks caught about one in six fakes, with no false alarms on genuine bags. Most fakes carry a correctly formed code copied from a genuine bag.
- •Letters on the leather date tab. Genuine tabs we have read carry digits only (an O misread for a 0 is the usual cause, so recheck first).
- •A first pair outside 01 to 04, such as 07 or 00.
- •A year that has not happened yet.
- •A year before the model existed, such as a Woody dated 2016. Where launch dates in the press disagree, the tool uses the earliest one reported.
What it does not flag
Each of these appears on genuine Chloé bags.
- •A code that appears on another bag. Genuine bags share date codes.
- •Any factory pair, or a tag without 65. Genuine exceptions exist.
- •Dashes, spaces, dots or no separators at all.
- •A tag that says MADE IN ROMANIA, BULGARIA, FRANCE, SPAIN or PORTUGAL instead of Italy.
- •A hologram code that differs from the leather tab code. They are separate systems.
The hologram, the card and the digital ID
The hologram code is a lot code: a letter, a digit, then four more letters or digits, such as C7RW2M. Many bags from one lot share it, and counterfeiters copy genuine lot codes, so a familiar code proves nothing. It never matches the leather date code.
The card’s hologram should carry the same lot code as the bag’s. If you enter both, the tool compares them. A match proves little. A card from a different lot is a reason to look closer, not proof: cards get swapped and sold separately.
From spring-summer 2023 Chloé began adding digital IDs (an NFC tag or a QR code linked to a certificate). If a newer bag has one, scanning it is the brand’s own check and stronger than anything a code reader can do.
What this tool can't tell you
- •Whether the bag is genuine. Most fakes carry a well-formed code, very often copied from a genuine bag, sometimes the exact same code.
- •Whether a hologram is genuine. Hologram codes are lot codes shared by many bags, and fakes copy them, rainbow film and barcode included.
- •Anything about bags from before 2005 or vintage pieces. They may have no code at all, or a different system we have not seen.
- •Whether a missing tab means anything. Tabs get cut out, so a missing tab is not proof either way.

Frequently asked questions
- How do I read a Chloé serial number?
- It is a date code, not a serial. The first pair is the season (01 to 04, read by collectors as spring, summer, autumn and winter collections) and the second pair the year, so 03-16-63-65 is season 3 of 2016. The third pair is probably the factory or supplier. Most later tags add 65 and sometimes one or two more digits, whose meaning Chloé has not published.
- Where is the serial number on a Chloé bag?
- On a small leather tab sewn into an inside seam, usually in or near the zip pocket, with the digits heat-embossed into the leather. The silver hologram sticker, on the back of the tab, on the lining or on a small fabric ribbon tag, carries a different code. Tabs are sometimes cut out, and bags from before 2005 may never have had one.
- Should the Chloé tag number match the hologram number?
- No. The leather tab carries digits, and the hologram carries a separate six-character lot code (a letter, a digit, then four letters or digits). They are separate systems and never match on a genuine bag. What should match is the hologram on the authenticity card and the hologram in the bag, and even that match proves little, because lot codes are shared and copied.
- Does a correct Chloé date code mean my bag is real?
- No. Most fakes carry a well-formed code with a plausible year, very often copied exactly from a genuine bag, and many genuine bags share the same code. A clean decode proves nothing. Only a code that breaks the format, gives a year that cannot exist or predates the model tells you something.
- Can I look up a Chloé serial number with Chloé?
- No. Chloé has no public lookup for the date code or the hologram lot code, and neither is unique to one bag. Newer pieces from spring-summer 2023 onwards may carry a Chloé digital ID, an NFC tag or a QR code linked to a certificate. If yours has one, scanning it is the brand's own check and stronger than any code reader.
