The style code is printed on the care label sewn inside the garment or stamped inside a bag. Common formats: 8043521 (7-digit numeric) or 80435210 (8-digit numeric) or 8011A22B (alphanumeric). Spaces and dashes are ignored.

A style code alone does not prove authenticity.

Counterfeit Burberry items routinely copy plausible style codes. Always verify the label font, lining pattern, hardware weight, and stitching quality alongside the code. Get a professional authentication →

Label Name Dating Guide

The spelling of the brand name on the label is one of the easiest ways to date a Burberry piece.

"Burberrys" (with an S)

The brand traded as Burberrys of London until 1999. Any label reading "Burberrys" dates the piece to pre-1999. This is normal and expected on vintage pieces.

"Burberry" (no S)

The brand simplified to Burberry in 1999. All genuine pieces from 1999 onward use this spelling. If a label claims to be modern but reads "Burberrys," that is a red flag.

Made in England

Authentic Burberry trench coats are manufactured at the Burberry factory in Castleford, Yorkshire, England. The label on a genuine trench coat should read "Made in England." Other product categories (scarves, bags, knitwear) may be produced in other countries — this is normal for those lines.
